PLEASE read the entire ad here before bidding or asking any questions, I try to be very thorough in my descriptions and it is very important to me to keep buyers happy! Also, if you do decide to bid on/ purchase this car, you agree to comply to the terms stated in this ad. Due to an abundance of zero feedback buyers who bid on my auctions and then do not follow through, if you have zero feedback contact me BEFORE BIDDING, or I will have to remove your bid and cancel you from bidding in the future. If you are the lucky winner of this auction, I do require a $500 deposit at the conclusion of the auction and the balance must be paid within 5 days by any conventional method other than Paypal: Cash in person, check, bank transfer, etc. In addition, I have this car for sale locally as well and reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Finally, if you are able to come inspect the car in person, PLEASE DO SO. I do not want to in any way mis-interpret or over-sell the car. It is best if you take a look for yourself to get a ‘feel’ for the car. In addition, I think if you come see the car in person you will be so impressed you will insist that I sell the car to you on the spot! I have taken a lot of pictures, but I understand with a car of this vintage you could never have ‘too many pictures’ so please, if you would like to see anything else, or close-ups of anything in particular, please message me and let me know where to send the pictures and what you would like to see. Now, ONTO THE CAR ! : As you can see, this is a handsome 1959 Jaguar MK9 , MKIX, AKA Mark 9 or MK IX. IT has its original engine and automatic transmission still in its rust-free chassis, and it is showing 74,800 miles on the odometer. The is a 'Numbers Matching' car with original engine # NC4109-8 and gearbox # JB8 5549 A still installed in the car. I was told the engine was completely rebuilt about 15 years ago before the car was parked for some time. The car looks stunning, and every time I walk out into my shop and see it sitting there, I have to stare at it for 10 or 12 minutes from a variety of angles. I was NOT given any detailed history or records for the car. I was told however that this was an older (expensive/good) restoration that was driven infrequently and parked shortly after the restoration was completed due to a problem with the starter. The restoration included the shiny, excellent paint job, re-covering of the interior (in grey vinyl), ‘new’ domestic carpet installation, an engine rebuild or refreshing (I was told the cylinder head had come off at least) and many new brake parts. The car was then driven now and then for a couple of years until the starter started to act up. The starter was then removed and put in the trunk for repair at a later date that never came. The car was parked in a garage out of the elements during this time. Marvel Mystery oil was put in the cylinders and spark plugs put back in preparation of a stretch of being out of service. Last Spring year ago the car was put outside again and I was able to finally buy it just recently. I would LOVE to keep this car, it is one of my favorites, but I have to pay for a trip to the UK next month to buy some diesel Land Rover Defender 90 and 110 trucks, and import them back here. As a result, I do not have the time to try to get the car running and driving again. It was not an easy decision for me to make, but I have decided to sell the car as-is-where-is in a bid to be ‘responsible’ and pay for my pending trip. My wife is all-behind this line of reasoning. I took the starter out of the trunk and found that the brush plate was loose. I tightened it up and re-installed the starter, removed the spark plugs and energized the starter - THE ENGINE SPINS FREELY AND SOUNDS LIKE IT HAS GOOD COMPRESSION! I have since put the plugs back in, took the starter back off to send out to be checked/ repaired permanently, and that is the extent of the mechanical checking I have done. Everything I was told about the car has checked out as correct so far, and I think the engine will turn out to be rebuilt and healthy as I was told. Even in the event that you need to pay some attention to the engine, for the money I am asking and the condition of the rest of the car, this is a great deal. When the engine turns out to be healthy, the deal will be that much sweeter! If I had more time before I left I would get the car running and driving and ask much more for it. Unfortunately, I am not going to have time in the next two weeks. BODY/ EXTERIOR of the car: Well, I hesitate to use a word like ‘perfect’ , but I can tell you the paint looks terrific. This is an older respray (Either in an original color or it was a very expensive job in the door jambs, under carpet, all glass removed.) Paint is very shiny and looks great. There are a number of small chips, and scratches that have been touched up. I have taken close-up pictures of these areas. There is no evidence of rust anywhere. The worst ‘chips/ damage’ is the front fresh air vent/flap which looks like someone tried to pry open with a screwdriver and made a chip or two. Please check pictures. Body panels are all very straight and I can not see any evidence of accident repair or bondo. ALL LIGHTS AND LENSES ARE PRESENT! Some trim and lenses have been removed and put in a box in the trunk, I do not know why. Headlight trim rings are here and in great condition. BUMPERS are very straight, and chrome looks great! Bumper over-riders have a couple of small spots of rust that will probably buff or sand away easilt. THE POT METAL PARTS like trunk handles/ license plate light module have some minor pitting and would have to be re-chromed in order to be perfect. 99% of trim on the car is present. WHAT IS MISSING - I have found the trim for the rear window is not here. I think that is the only thing missing. Speaking of windows, all glass is perfect. THE WINDSHIELD AND REAR WINDOW SEALS NEED TO BE CHANGED. The rubber has gotten old and cracked and dry and should be changed. Windshield trim is here and in the trunk. Steel rims and chrome hub caps look brilliant! Underneath, frame looks perfectly straight and rust-free with no evidence of repairs. NO RUST in out riggers, suspension points, or anywhere else. INTERIOR/SWITCHES/TRIM : Seats look very nice, and are covered in a grey vinyl. There is a tear on the drivers side seat. Other seats look great! All adjusters and sliders work great as they should. All switches and controls work as they should. All lights present. All trim here. THE WOOD TRIM: All is present, but shellac is failing and some of the trim is looking tired. This is true most with the dash itself. Door caps and sunroof trim look great. DASH is not damaged and I believe the wood can be re-finished and look great, as it should. Again, all trim is present and if it does not look great now, a re-shellacking will make it look great. KNOB FOR AUTOMATIC SHIFT LEVER IS MISSING. All keys work and doors lock, gas flaps open, ignition key works. Door panels look good as well. Carpet is getting old and stained. Headliner is also getting faded/stained. I think the headliner is the worst aspect of the car, please be sure to check my pictures. Since the car has been parked outside this year, some water got inside on the drivers side floor. The sound proofing pad soaked up some water and not only smells musty, but also DID leave surface rust on the drivers side floor board. The floor is still solid, and this is not structural rust – I am confident it can be wire-brushed and painted and be good-as-new, but I do not want to try to hide anything from you either, so have elected to leave it as-is. Rest of the floors look great and solid. SUNROOF looks and works great. Handle locks it up into position, it slides easily, and most importantly, it does NOT LEAK. All windows wind up and down (with a little bit more effort than usual- have not been used in a while) and all switches work, nothing stuck! Speaking of electrical stuff, the wiring harness looks original and I have not seen any areas where it has been cut, spliced or messed with. THERE IS AN AFTERMARKET RADIO/ CASSETTE DECK IN THE DASH, and a pair of small speakers have been screwed on top of the rear parcel shelf (but holes have not been cut or speakers ‘dropped in’) - All can be easily removed. TOOL KITS ARE HERE, and 99% COMPLETE TOO! As you may know, all the big, chunky chrome-covered brass window frames and door handles/ window winders never get pitted or have the chrome go bad, and this is extra true in the case of this car. All handles and knobs are present and working, and look great and shiny as when they were new. Tire jack present in the trunk. Spare tire in the trunk as well as vinyl cover. SPEAKING OF THE TRUNK: Trunk is big, roomy, and the vinyl is getting dirty and deteriorating a bit. The worst rust on the entire car is waiting here in the trunk: Beneath the spare tire, a rag was placed a long time ago to insulate the tire from rubbing in the bottom , this rag absorbed some water at some point, and this small tire well has rust that would require welding. This is isolated to the spare tire well only, and would be small potatoes for a body shop to repair. There is some more surface rust under the large trunk vinyl floor carpet, again like the drivers floor, this appears to be surface and poking at it with a screwdriver/ pick did not go through anywhere, floor still solid. Gas tanks look great, do not leak, and if gas was left in them they do not smell awful, like old gas. Filler necks even look nice and clean. I think you could put fresh gas in the tanks and get the car running in a day if you are a mechanical person (or have a shop at your disposal). I have included pictures of these trouble spots in the trunk, please be sure to inspect all my pictures here. I DO NOT KNOW THE CONDITION OF THE BRAKES other than they do not drag, and there is fluid in the master cylinder reservoir. I would plan on having to go through the brakes if I were to keep the car though. I do not know the condition of the transmission, other than being told it was working fine, as it should, before the car was parked. Brake calipers and rotors look good and are not rusty. The tires actually look very nice - Correct radials are like new with a lot of tread (95%?) and no wear spots! EXTRA/ OTHER STUFF: As I mentioned before, the tool kits are present and nearly-complete in the cool front-door pop-out compartments. All wrenches (marked ‘JAGUAR’) and sockets, and brake-bleeder, grease gun, points gapper as well as jack and hand crank are all here! Unfortunately, I do not have any other paperwork for the car other than the clear Oregon title. No books, no manuals, no receipts. Any extra lenses or trim that I possess will be here in a box in the trunk along with the starter motor. LEGAL STUFF: I DO have a signed, Oregon clear title here to transfer to the new owner. The car is my sole possession with no liens, and I have full right to transfer ownership to the buyer. This is a used car and it is sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS with no guarantees! SHIPPING COSTS will be the sole responsibility of the buyer, and I can help recommend a shipping company if you like. I can store the car for you for free, for up to 30 days from the time of purchase, if you need time to collect the car, however, the car must be paid in full within 5 days of the end of this auction. Upon full payment of the car, I can send the title and bill of sale to you by priority mail, and will release the car to your transportation carrier. These cars do not come up for sale that often, and they are usually rusty expensive-to-undertake projects, I think this one is not.
