You are bidding on one extremely rare Oldsmobile. This is a 1978 Toronado XS. There were not many built,and if you look now, you, as I also did, will find that there are only a handful left in existance. The regular Toronado of 77-78 was built with a flat back window. The XS was an experimental coupe with a massive "U" shaped wrap around rear window, and a massive tinted power moonroof, and it works excellent.. It took me many many years to find one of these, and unfortunately for me, I have to sell it asap to help cover medical expenses I'm incruing. Let me tell you about the car.. It get alot of compliments, and draws alot of attention, usually people say "I've never seen one of those before".. It had only 2 or 3 owners.I got it this last May, only 5 months ago. I had high hopes for it, The car was already nice but I went and spent an extra $2500 in parts to get it where i wanted it mechanically.. I'll explain that too.. Its only got 98k orig miles, which, for it's age comes to only about 2800 miles per year.. The paint is in descent shape,it looks like it was repainted once, as well as the intricate pinstriping. The interior is very cushy plush material with no rips or tears. The dash has zero cracks and the woodgrain inserts are tip top.. The carpets are fair/ average and there is one heel wear spot on drivers floor next to the drivers side door.The half Landau top is average and can use a scrubbing but it is not cracked or ripped.. The amazing and unique rear window has a defroster wchich also works well. The speedometer and all the instruments work, as well as the cruise control,which works like it did when it rolled off the factory floor. The A/C has recently been re-done with R-134 and a new compressor that was installed last summer and blows decently cold...Tilt wheel option and 6 way power seat work great, all lights work, the car has a power trunk release which also works.The horn works, the power door locks work well, the power windows are fast and smooth as is the factory tinted power moonroof. It works flawlessly and the sliding inside cover is tip top. The engine looks quite nicely,with nothing leaking out that I can see and I just did a full tune up on the car 300 miles ago. I put in NGK V power spark plugs and wires, new cap, rotor, fuel filter,fuel hoses, I replaced the thermostat housing and gasket,brand new EGR valve, all belts brand new, oil just changed. the Radiator had just been professionally Re-Cored last year by the man here thats the best radiator man around. New hoses, and I also went thru and replaced just about every inch of the small vacuum lines and hoses, cleaned and readjusted the Carburetor, put in a special air cleaner.. The trans shifts smoothly and as intended. It has a brand new battery, cables, wiper blades.. New front wheel bearings, new front brake disks and pads, new upper ball joints.The exhuast system was partially replaced not too long ago, rear drum brakes are BRAND new, the drums were just put on, and both rear wheel cylinders replaced, new brake shoes installed. A new Master Cylinder and all the metal rear brake lines were replaced at this time as well. I also just replaced the main metal brake line from front to back of the car. Also, all four new shocks at each wheel, and new springs too! Everything on this car works and everything mechanical in this car has been replaced, or updated over and again.. The car has 4 brand new white wall radial tires on it, with warranty paperwork, among some other receipts I have for parts and bills, I have the original bill of sale, and the original owners manuals too. This car starts up quickly and effortlessly and the 6.6 liter Olds 403 Cubic inch engine runs beautifully. The car drives straight and true and its like driving a sofa and you can steer it with your pinky finger. Its front wheel drive so don't fear the snow! The only problem with this car is that on the passenger side rear, around the wheel well and behind the tire, there is rust, that can be fixed if youre handy or can be left alone too. There are a few spots here and there elsewhere too. There is a penny sized rust flake by the dirvers door handle, and on the trunk lid in the corner, which I did my best to include in the photos. The trunk floor is solid and has the original Oldsmobile Mat and full sized spare.. The chrome is pretty nice, front bumper is good, the rear bumper has a little rust flaking but its not structural. Its a really nice driver, that you most likely may never see again. Feel free to come on over and drive it. I have placed a very low reserve on it.. I reserve the right to cancel the auction if someone local buys it first, as I also have it locally advertised. When this car was new, the rare XS OPTION, was over $4000.00 extra, putting it ahead of most any Cadillac at that time..When new, the regular 78 Toro was about $9000, and the XS was closer to $13,000 which is why they are so rare today. When I bought this car after looking extensively for one, I could only find four for sale in the entire country. Someone asked which of the two years the XS was offered, 77 and 78 which was rarer, and the answer is 78, this one. There were about 25% less 78's than 77's and after this car was made, it was forever changed. The 78 was the very last of it's breed as the 79's were way smaller and common, the XS option was never offered again, and the massive wraparound rear window was never re-issued in a car again.
