Vehicle Detail

Hello, and thank you for your interest in my Vintage Mercedes 250SE! Please read the entire ad before bidding or asking questions, there will be a lot of information here and your answer may be right here in the ad. Also, by bidding on this vehicle, you agree to all the terms stated here in the ad. PLEASE do not bid if you have zero or negative feedback without sending me your contact information first, or I will have to cancel your bid and block you from this auction. Now, onto the car: This is a very original, solid and rare surviving example of a 1967 Mercedes 250SE – Recently voted the #2 most collectible vintage car out there right now, this is a classy, appreciating classic. This particular car is exceptionally valuable in my opinion for it’s remarkably original and well-preserved condition with absolutely no rust whatsoever (other than some small patches of surface rust on the body… Which could have easily and cheaply been ‘glossed over’ before offering for sale but I believe this car’s value is better preserved and more honestly displayed by still wearing its original paint). … This car is also a rare 4-speed manual transmission car, giving it a surprisingly sporty feel and setting it in a class apart from the usual automatic cars. This car has been garaged it’s entire life, and you can tell immediately upon inspection. Car is mechanically prepared for anything, and has had several expensive recent procedures to make sure it is reliable and healthy for a long time to come Car also has an amazingly low 117,000 original miles. Everything on this car works, and there are no apologies or excuses here, short of it’s shabby and faded original paint. BODY/ EXTERIOR : As you can see, the original Aubergine (Dark Purple) paint is faded in the big flat areas: Mainly the front hood and roof. The sides and fenders of the car will actually shine up nicely with a buffing. I believe this car could get away with having only those panels re sprayed in order to look great, if you did not want to pay for a complete re-paint. BUMPERS are perfectly straight with perfect chrome and no damage whatsoever. Lights and lenses are all good and work as they should. Glass is all intact, clear and has no cracks or chips. Windows (manual) all wind up and down easily, and do not leak wind noise or rain. About the only real disappointment with the trim or bodywork other than paint is that the front grille is a bit wavy with a loose piece of trim as well. I have located another excellent front grille I can buy for $200 if the new owner is interested. In the meantime the grille still looks perfectly usable, but would not be acceptable if you are making a show car, and once the paint is sorted out it, this grill will look even more shabby. As you can see, car has rare and valuable European covered headlights- dramatic and look excellent. With some new paint this car is going to be a real looker! There is some surface rust where the paint has chipped on the hood and the roof. This is in face just surface rust and will wipe away with some steel wool or fine sandpaper, does not go into the metal and will easily be fixed with a paint job. There is no chassis or ‘deep’ rust anywhere on the car including in the trunk or spare wheel well. INTERIOR/ DASH/ HEADLINER : This is where this car really stands out! It appears that the interior may have been done sometime in the past because it is very close to perfect. I would rate the overall interior presentation at a strong 8 or 9 out of 10, ‘10’ being reserved for a show-winning perfect car. The headliner is perfect and clean with no tears or sagging. Door panels all look excellent and are clean. Carpet is the original expensive (and long-wearing) German basketweave Sisal and looks great with no damage. Seats are original and equally excellent. Wood is getting a little bid faded, but still looks great and has a nice glow to it. Would be easy to remove the wood trim and refinish it. Original steering wheel is a dramatic piece all by itself and is original and looks great. All dash switches work and look great. ORIGINAL BLAUPUNKT RADIO is still present and working great. Car also have original air conditioning, and all vents and switches are present, although A/C compressor belt has been removed. Compressor still turns by hand easily (is not seized). It appears dash and door cap tops have been re-covered at some time in the not-too-distant past and look great also with no tears rips or cracks. Sun visors are even in great shape as is center console. RULES/ PAYMENT STUFF/ SHIPPING : First of all, by bidding on this truck you agree to all the terms stated within this ad. I also reserve the right to end this auction at any time as the truck is for sale locally as well. If you really want it, you should definitely BUY IT NOW. This is a USED CAR and as expected comes with NO GUARANTEES or WARRANTEES at all. If possible, you should really come see and drive the truck in person to make sure you have no possible surprises.. I have tried to be as honest as I can in describing the vehicle here. Even though it is running fine now, I can not guarantee anything about it other than what was listed above – lots of new parts, running great now, etc.. This is standard language for a used car sale however. I would not hesitate to jump in and drive this anywhere right now (more on that in a minute) and I feel it is a healthy truck now as-is. PAYMENT REQUIREMENTS: $500 deposit due upon the conclusion of the auction, the balance by check/ money order/ any other payment method including cash-in-person within 5 days of the auctions end, NO EXCEPTIONS. I am selling this to raise capital now for other things. I can store this truck here in my shop for a month or so if need be, but it MUST be paid for in 5 days of the end of the auction. I have a clear title here ready to transfer to the new owner as soon as it is paid for. DELIVERY/ TRANSPORTATION : Truck is sold as-is, here at my location in Portland Oregon. Delivery and transportation is the responsibility of the buyer (you). HOWEVER: I have a trip to the East Coast planned in the next week or two. IT IS FATHOMABLE TO CONSIDER DELIVERY TO THE EAST COAST for a very reasonable fee. I would like to be there by the end of October/ first week in November and could drop off anywhere in a 300-mile radius of New York City for a reasonable gas/ flight cost (Maybe $700 or so). In this case, vehicle would still have to be paid in full at end of auction, and transport costs would be due upon delivery. West coast delivery is a possibility too – about $500 anywhere along the I5 corridor from Seattle ($150) to San Diego ($500) . If this is interesting to you, you must message me for exact details before bidding! IF you want to fly out and drive home yourself, I am happy to pick you up at the airport and bring you here to the shop to hand over the Rover. Please message with any questions. On Oct-17-12 at 15:39:16 PDT, seller added the following information: **** UPDATE **** Sorry, I was in a hurry typing my ad and forgot a few things, and by the time I returned to change my description I already had a bid and could not update my ad! I had cut and pasted some 'delivery options' that went with a Range Rover I am also selling, sorry the language in that portion of the ad still addresses the Rover. Here is some more important and pertinent information regarding the Mercedes for sale here ****** First of all, the odometer reads in KM, not miles, so the car has only 117,000 KM, which is about 72,000 miles! I believe this is original and supported by the original service booklet in the car. MECHANICALLY, we just spent over $1200 having a freshly-rebuilt mechanical fuel injection pump put on the car. At this same time, only a few hundred miles ago, I performed a major tune-up to the car as well. Even from cold, car starts right up on the first twist of the key and settles into a nice smooth idle. It takes a couple of minutes for the old girl to warm up and have full power at full throttle, but that is to be expected with 45-year old technology! Engine sounds and runs great and has no funny noises or smells or other issues. Warms up nicely and does not overheat. Has no leaks at all. Clutch feels good and strong and does not slip. Transmission shifts smoothly into each gear. Car is geared very low, so it accelerates quickly to freeway speeds, but honestly, gears are pretty short for modern travel. Car will go 100 plus MPH, but it is happiest around 65-75. The ride is very smooth and quiet, amazing really for a car of this vintage. Brake calipers all look pretty new as do rotors, and brakes work perfectly with no pulling, pulsing or squeaking. Very solid feel to the four-wheel-discs. Everything on the car works as it should and all lights and glass are good. All gauges work well. Heater works well. INTERIOR: Steering wheel looks great but does have two small cracks (please see pictures) All wood is there and looks very good, but varnish is beginning to fail. In order to be a show car the wood would have to be re finished. It is all there though, and in my opinion looks a 7 or better out of 10 with a nice warm glow. Carpets look good still and seats and door panels look absolutely great. Car has most of its original sales literature including the birth certificate from the Mercedes factory showing all the option codes. Car even has an almost-complete original tool kit as well. Car is for sale locally as well, and I reserve the right to end this auction at any time! If you are keen on buying this car (and it is a great one - rare European version) you really should 'Buy it Now' If you would like any more specific pictures or information of anything, please message me or you can call at 423-314-0622. In short, this is a rare car, and of this rare variety this is particularly rare it having European options and low miles, as well as being so well preserved and original. If you like these cars, I think you will be very impressed with this example. Please do not hesitate to let me know what other information I can provide to you, thank you On Oct-18-12 at 14:09:50 PDT, seller added the following information: ****I meant to add these details about some of the small imperfections: front seats were kept covered, but on the edges of the passenger seats where the cover exposed the edges there are two sun damaged spots which you can see in the photos. The front bumper has a very small ding near the passenger side headlamp, please see photos. The back window ledge sisal has a small burn. The vinyl that is re-done on the dash and door top panels is lifting in a spot (see photo- above the glove box), and the rear passenger side door top panel the edge of the vinyl is lifting off on the bottom edge (see photo). If you need more photos or want to see something in particular just message me and I will be happy to provide them. Thank you!
