Vehicle Detail
I purchased this car in 1998 at the 60% restoration point done by the previous owner who could no longer continue the project. The body and interior had been completely stripped and repainted in guard red with the exception of the bonnet and doors. The bonnet was stripped to bare metal to reveal minor rust perforations where the wing meets the center section. These were repaired using lead as the filler with very good results. The doors also had some rust in the lower portions which I also tried to repair with lead with less than stellar results. Some blistering is now evident in these areas and for this reason I have opted not to install the door window glass nor the door interior panels. The original engine was rebuilt by the previous owner in 1997. The engine bay and tubular front chassis framework were meticulously restored prior to reinstallation of the engine and they still sparkle. There is a scrape above the right rear wheel arch. The floors are solid.New and correct Connolly leather and wool carpets are in place and very clean. The console needs to be completed and I have the parts for this as well as the original Blaupunct radio. Many upgrades have been done including an aluminum radiator,(the car does not overheat) Wilwood brakes with drilled rotors in front with stainless steel brake lines in front, all bushings and suspension components replaced including uprated bronze bushings in differential carrier along with new springs and shocks from Classic jaguar in Texas. The original 4 speed transmission shifts smoothly through all gears. The engine has an intermittent misfire and I have not yet tried to diagnose this problem. The twin stromberg carburetors have never been rebuilt and I suspect this could be the cause. All new wiring harnesses were installed in 2000. All guages work except the clock. I have lost some of the passion I had when I first brought it home and since the restoration never seems to end with these cars,I have decided It's time to pass it on. I have begun with a starting bid that hopefully will spark some interest as I am confident that the car is an excellent example of the genre with strong points greatly outweighing its flaws.
