seven-11 Store 1968 Chrysler New Yorker 440 A/C Car ORIGINAL Paint Low Miles Barn Find Survivor Here is a solid car for the Mopar or full-size car fanatic, my barn find 1968 Chrysler New Yorker that I purchased from the second owner back in March. In spite of my desire to hang on to this car, after being off work for six weeks following heart surgery, I just can't afford to put the money into getting it finished. This car was sold new by Kirlin Auto in rural Iowa and was purchased by the previous owner in 1972 when he traded in his 1964 Dodge (I have the paperwork!) and owned by him until March 2012, when I bought it. The car has 93268 original miles and was literally stored in a metal farm building with the previous owner's other cars and tractors and had not been driven in many years. I already own a 1969 Chrysler Newport and love these full-size cars, but financial reasons are forcing me to part with the 1968.I'm going to tell you what I can about the car, I am not going to give you some BS two sentence description and four photos like many of the cars I see here on ebay, I'd like you to know what it is you are looking at and buying. Read the description and look at all 24 supersize photos! The car has the ORIGINAL factory paint and NO rot or rust out in the body panels, trunk or floor pans. The paint needs a clay bar treatment and a buff job, but it is still fairly shiny and has no thin spots. There are some rock chips and minor dings and there are two scraped areas that I have shown in the pictures. There is some minor SURFACE rust on the bottom of the rear quarters, it is surface rust only, there are not any rotted out areas or rust holes. The doors all look good, they are not rusty or rotted at the bottom (see pics) but the front doors need new return springs (they close by themselves as the springs are missing). The fender skirts are good, no rot on them or the fenders around the wheel wells. All of the trim and stainless is all pretty nice, the pot metal items are all good, no serious pitting, and the bumpers are clean and straight. The underside of the car is dirty as the car spent it's life in rural Iowa and was driven on gravel and dirt roads, but from what I could see there is no rust out in the floor or trunk pan. It appears that the car was undercoated and that has definitely helped preserve the underside of the car. There is a small amount of minor damage (scuffing) at the right front corner of the front fender and the trim there is damaged, and the plastic in the grill has a couple splits (both can be seen in pics). The chrome trim that goes on the front of the hood has been pulled off, but I DO have it (it will need new mounts attached to it). The body is not flawless, but I would say that it is pretty nice for a 40+ year old car. The interior is all ORIGINAL, it has the factory cloth seats with the fold down arm rests and original green carpeting, plus a vintage floor mat up front. The seats could be cleaned up and there are some minor splits (see pics) in the front driver's side lower cushion, but are usable as is. The carpet is dirty and needs at least steam cleaned as well. The factory dash is nice and is not cracked along the top, all the door panels are good, but have some barn dust on them that needs fully scrubbed off. There are two holes in the headliner from mice, which I have shown in the pics. The lower cover under the steering column was missing, but I do have an NOS replacement that is black. All of the windows are good and do roll up and down (not power), but I did notice the front window has a rock chip that will need chip sealed. The car did not run when I bought it, (it is equipped with the K code 440 with the Holley four-barrel carb), but I replaced the engine electrics, including plugs, plug wires, coil, distributor cap and a Pertronix electronic ignition kit (no more points). I also had the original Holley four-barrel carb electrosonic cleaned and rebuilt. There are new valve cover gaskets installed as well. The car also has a new fuel pump, fuel sending unit AND a NEW FUEL TANK and all of the fuel lines have been cleaned or replaced. I also installed a new master cylinder and managed to get the brakes to function. The car also had the radiator replaced at some point. The transmission seems to function as it should and the fluid looks clean. This is an air conditioned car, but the A/C components were removed when I'm guessing the compressor locked up (it is missing), but I do have the hoses and some other components that will go with the car (see items in trunk pic). The heater core also must have been leaking as it has been bypassed. It has four really sweet looking Goodyear bias-ply white wall tires with loads of tread, but a couple of them have some serious checking on the back side of the sidewall, so I would not recommend driving too far on them. Now for the not so great news, after I got the car to run and stop it was driven less than 10 miles, but began to leak coolant out the left cylinder head at the rear, it could be a head gasket or cylinder head issue, I'd guess this is probably due to the car sitting all those years. The car did not get hot, did not overheat or get driven after that, it has remained parked at a friend's house where we were taking it to clean up the car. The car will start and run good enough to load on a trailer, but with the coolant issue, NO you cannot drive it home! The car is not perfect, but it is so ORIGINAL and really straight it would be a great cruiser, cool custom or family friendly car show machine (lots of room inside!). I'd love to keep it as it is a great car with a cool story, but since I was off work for six weeks AND had major surgery, I just can't afford to get the New Yorker finished as I would like. Vehicle is sold AS IS, NO WARRANTY! Title is in hand will be released when the vehicle is paid in full. Please do not email me asking what the reserve is, I do not reveal reserves and will just delete your email, it is VERY reasonable, just bid what it's worth to you. Remember you are buying a 40+ year old vehicle, there could be some issues or flaws that I may have missed - I am human afterall. If you want a flawless or perfect car, do us all a favor and visit your local dealer and buy a new one, or do not buy a classic car PROJECT like this. Yes it will probably leak some kind of fluid when parked, it is 44 years old and has been driven, used and stored for years. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to ask BEFORE you bid and I'll do my best to help. A $250 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit will be due within 24 hours, which can be paid by paypal. Inquire first, BEFORE you bid about the options. Transportation and the costs of transport are the sole responsibility of the buyer, please make your own arrangements for transportation. If required, the vehicle can be stored until pick-up, but it needs to be picked up in a REASONABLE amount of time (within 30 days). Thanks for looking and good luck!View My Other Items For SaleVisit My eBay StoreView My About Me page On Oct-05-12 at 20:40:12 PDT, seller added the following information: As you can see by the questions, I did have an ebayer ask me about the engine in this car, saying it was a 383, I stated the engine is the original 440 unit that came in the car, but I did double check with the VIN, paperwork AND the stamping on the block, it IS a 440, stamped with "D" (which means 1968 according to my Mopar book) and "440" which means its a 440, as stated. Just wanted to post that here so everyone would know. Thanks!
