Vehicle Detail

1970 Plymouth Duster V8 Original 1970 Valiant Duster With Upgrades! Up for auction is a 1970 Plymouth Duster. This Duster is now a 2 owner car and has a clear Tennessee title and is currently registered and tagged. We also have the original 3x5 Tennessee Certificate of title from the date of sale in November of 1969, don’t see these very often. We have been working on the Duster here and there in the mind of ending up with a sweet driver. As there is always another project waiting in the wings and with a great deal of the work completed the Duster is far enough along that we are going to see if someone would like to take it from here. With that said this is what we offer. A 1970 Valiant Duster (the first year of production by the way) with the original 318 V8 and 904 automatic. The speedometer works and the odometer has tripped over 100,000 to 36,175 miles. The original 318 runs nicely. We cleaned it up, plugs, and did rebuild the factory 2 BBL carb, new fuel pump and replaced the motor mounts. It will smoke a bit at start up after sitting a while but goes down the road like a champ and sounds great with brand new dual exhaust turned down at the rear axle. The original transmission is a 904 automatic, the fluid and filter have been changed also the selector shaft seal has been replaced it also goes down the road with no issues. The rear end of the Duster has been upgraded from the original 7 ¼ to a big bolt pattern 8 ¼ open rear end. The 8 ¼ has drum brakes that perform just as they should. The front end of the car has also been upgraded to big bolt pattern manual disc brakes. The master cylinder is new and there has been a load of work done to the front end including replacing the idler arm, A-frame bushings, upper ball joint and lower ball joints. All this followed up with a fresh alignment. The Duster has the original wheels and wheel covers. The tires have been upgraded from rollers at the time of the pictures to 225/70/14 drivers in good shape. The windshield wiper bushings and linkage have been replaced and work correctly. As for the body of the Duster it did and still will need sheet metal work. The frame rails and torsion bar housings are in good condition. We have replaced the driver’s side door and both doors are in good working condition but could use a new set of hinge pins. Both the drivers and passengers side front floor pans have been replaced, welded in, finished with 3M seam sealer and 3M under coating. Both quarters will need attention we have started on the passenger side where a vintage repair looks to have taken place many years ago. We installed a metal patch panel at the forward portion. The patch panel is welded in and roughed finished in primer. The same process was done with the passenger side tail light which looked to have been bumped somewhere in time. The tail light has been replaced and the sheet metal has been straightened and welded then roughed in with primer. The spare tire well has been replaced with a donor from another car. The gas tank was replaced with one we had, there are no fuel leaks. As I said there is still work to be done as far as the body goes. There will be additional patch work, the under side of the deck lid will need repair and there is surface rust on most of the flat surfaces. The grille is nice with no damage, bumpers are fair, front is better than the back. The interior is complete however needs to be redone. Included is an additional back seat that is not the correct color but in better shape than the original. In short we offer a starting, stopping, running and driving project Duster that you can take over and drive while you continue to finish. If you are in the habit of searching 70-72 Dusters on eBay as I do then you know most are hulls or rollers missing engine or transmission or both. You just don’t see very many 70-72 V8 Dusters as complete, running projects. This would be a great father / son project car that your young Mopar fan could drive to school while knocking out quick weekend projects along the way to a finished driver. Please email any questions that you may have prior to the auctions end. We will be happy to tell you everything we know about this little A-body, there will be nothing to hide here. The Duster is located in Shelbyville, Tennessee 37160. We are willing to meet the winning bidder at a central location like an interstate for example but these arrangements will need to be made prior to the auctions end. If you have zero feed back contact me prior to bidding. There will be a $500.00 deposit due at auctions end. Final payment can be made upon pick up. We do reserve the right to end this auction at any time as the Duster is for sale locally. This car is sold as is, there is no warranty expressed or implied.
