Vehicle Detail
For sale: 1968 RT Dodge Charger. It was a factory Gold/ Vinyl top car. I have included a link directly below to 152 photos of the car. Please review the photos, read the description, and ask questions if you have any. Please do not overlook the photos of the interior without the seats in. http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w231/photon07/1968%20RT%20Charger/ This is a project car. I have the fender tag for the car as well as a title in my name. I do not have a build sheet for the car. When I purchased the car, the doors were off of the car. There was an accumulation of leaves and moisture that rusted out the floor in the car. The roof skin on the car is in perfect shape. No rust holes in the roof. The car was a factory undercoated car. The frame rails are in good shape. The frame rails that support the inner fenders on the front are real nice. The areas where they T-off and support the torsion bar are in real nice shape as well. Opposite of the torsion bars where they T-off to the door will need a repair. I have a 70 charger that I drive that has the same rust area on the front frame rail and I have no issue with it. I have included several photos of the underside of the car, so please review them. The rear frame rails are in real nice shape. The trunk floor is really clean minus the trunk extension pieces. I have also included several photos of the trunk floor and rear frame rails. The plastic portion of the grill will need replaced. Of the three pieces, the driver’s side headlight bucket is in real nice shape. The center section of the grill will need replaced as well as the passenger side headlight bucket. All the other parts of the grill frame and mechanical parts behind the plastic portion are all there and in good shape. These would be the hard-to-find parts on a grill restoration and they are all there. The inner fenders of the car are in good shape. The driver side fender has a dent in the front section of it. I showed it to a body man and he thought it could be worked out. The driver side is real usable. The passenger side fender has some real bad rust in the upper front section. Both doors on the car are usable. The rocker panels are surprisingly in good shape. Again, the rust in the floor of the car was from accumulation of leaves and moisture from no doors on the car. The rear quarters will need to be replaced. The trunk lid has a couple of dents on the rear lip. Both bumpers are good cores. I added a transmission from another 68 charger that I had. It will need rebuilt. It does have a 1968 440 engine. I don’t think that 68s had the VIN stamped on the block. The rear end is a posi. I would guess that it is the original one to the car. The driver side rear tire hold air for about 2 days and then goes flat. The only glass on the car now is the driver side glass and the vent windows on both doors. I may be able to come up with the rear window glass and a pass side door glass. I will look around. Below I decoded the fender tag and came up with the following options. However, if you are going to invest time and money to restore a second generation charger this is the one you want because it is a true RT. A lot of hard-to-find parts are still on this car. The car does have the usual Charger rust. Please evaluate the photos and bid accordingly. If you want to see the car in person, feel free to contact me and we can work out a time to see the car. I will be keeping 2 things that are photographed on the car: the RT emblem on the front headlight bucket, as well as the plastic bezel that surrounds the radioOn Sep-17-12 at 21:03:11 PDT, seller added the following information: At the request of the bidder. I have added pictures of the fender tag front and back to the photobucket account. The tag does have surface rust but is rock solid and all number/letters are clear. I did not want to clean the thing up and remove any of the gold paint. I thought that may look a little shaddy. The last 6 numbers on the tag match the rad support and trunk lip. After taking a few ebay questions about the motor. This is not a numbers matching car. The motor is a D440, which is a 68 440. However, this car should have had an HP2 located on that same pad in the front of the motor. Please ask more questions and read/eval all 154 pictures before placing your bid. Thanks.
