This vehicle has served me well in New York City for the past two-and-a-half years; I am selling because I intend to drive for a car service and they are asking for SUVs. With the investment of some TLC, you can own a timeless Mercedes-Benz -- people constantly think I am doing incredibly well financially when I pull up in this car -- and after more than two years of ownership, I still love looking at the Benz "star" on the hood. This is a '99, so naturally, there are some issues, all easily dealt with or lived with: There are several patches of rust on the body panels, especially around the trim. This needs going over with an angle grinder, some filler and paint. The only exception is the front passenger-side fender, this has rusted through: I'm guessing it will have to be replaced. The car's original owner lived in the Adirondack Mountains, where salted winter roads and loose gravel caused the rust. It has not progressed in two years of outdoor parking in Brooklyn. There are a couple of dings: two small ones on the trunk lid and one on the hood (all the result of vandalism). The passenger side window occasionally sticks -- this is a known issue with this vehicle. It has always freed up after a minute or so. The passenger side wing mirror is designed to swivel down when reverse gear is engaged, then return to position when the car is put in "Drive". It tends to stay swiveled down, so before pulling out of a parking spot, I usually check its position. The dashboard light blew out a couple of weeks ago, I have been procrastinating on getting it replaced. The gauges and dials are all visible at night.The dashboard switch for opening the trunk is missing (I bought it that way). I just open the trunk with the key fob -- it has never bothered me. Mechanically, the car is sound. Other than routine maintenance, the car developed a misfire in February of this year. My mechanic replaced two spark plugs (2 per cylinder on this vehicle) and it has run fine ever since. It is due for a tune-up. The only other major piece of maintenance was getting my AC recharged last summer. My mechanic actually considered buying this car when he heard I was selling; he tells me that with care, this vehicle should run for many thousands more miles -- perhaps hundreds of thousands. Naturally, this is a used car, like all used cars, it is sold as is, with no warranties or guarantees -- but put it this way: I will be sorry to see it go. I am happy to deliver the vehicle within a 75 mile radius of Columbus Circle, NYC -- provided you give me a ride to the nearest public transportation afterward (I will be driving this car, so won't have a ride home). Naturally, you are welcome to come pick it up.
