Offered for a NO-Reserve Sale is a 1974 Volkswagon Bus/Vanagon Camper. Westfalia. I would really have loved the restore this camper to its original glory; however, after the purchase I realized that I just don’t have the time. Camper was donated item to National Veteran’s Service Fund and then I bought it. From my research the Vanagon was titled to the donor in 1996 when the VW had 128,909 miles on it. It appears that 66,000 miles was put on the van in the past 16 years. The mileage cannot be guranteed since it exceeds mechanical limits. Although, the Bus had been sitting for some time (guessing by the plate 3-4 years), it fired right up and runs smoothly and does not smoke. I went through all gears and had the van up to 55 MPH. An Ebay Member Commented from the pictures that someone has put a type I (Beetle)engine in lieu of the type II engine that was stock. Please evaluate the bus accordingly Someone obviously put work into this van over the years. The Haynes manual was in the van along with an older engine head, new rotors which have not been installed. Very cool tie-dyed curtains and front curtains give a van a complete look. Brakes are weak and tires are not road worthy for a distance other than a test ride. The Ignition wiring has been bypassed and modified with a start button and switch; however, the ignition w/key and wires are intact. Lights and wipers all appear work, the radio is missing but the original faceplate is present. Highlights: Original Dash - No Major Cracks or Damage Interior Cloth - No Visible Rips or Tears Sink-Works Front Door Panels & All Other Panels in Very Good Condition Ice Box Spare (collapsible sidewall) Tire Stool Functional Beds and Bench Seat Childs Hammock/Cot Rear Screen Original Factory Labels/Decals Floor Boards and Frame are Solid but have surface rust. I priced all Lower body panels to repair lower rust at bughaus.com for under $800. All the Glass is in Great Condition except for the windshield which is cracked. Obviously, the camper canvass needs replaced as pictured. All camper top framework and top locks work as they should. PLEASE SEE PHOTO BUCKET LINK FOR ALL PICTURES. This is being sold “as-is” hopefully to a buyer that plans on restoring the VW, slowly or over time after it is made road worthy and enjoyed while the process starts. There will be small descriptive details that I missed, so if something is important to you ask. I will answer to the best of my ability. This is a complete van with great potential for a restoration. It sat for a number of years. It is nearly 40 years old. Please take the age into consideration when bidding. It will need to be trailered and buyer is responsible for all shipping, arrangements and costs. I am starting the starting offer price low with no reserve. A Paypal deposit is due at auctions end. Pick up is due within seven days of auction’s end and cash to provide full payment. It can be driven on the trailer or flatbed. If you would like to see the VW in advance please let me know. I may not be able to respond to questions the last few hours/minutes of the auction, so please ask early. Everything appears to be there, all major and minor components, for a great project. The VW is being sold As-Is/Where-Is. Bus is available for local sale, I reserve the right to end the auction early but will not do so if bidding is reasonably active and any interested local prospective purchasers will be told to bid on e-bay. It's only fair to those watching and bidding as the auction progresses. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS: VW Community Thank you for all your expert Advice. Thank you Ken That's definitely a type 1 or 1971 type 2 engine. I'm surprised it fit in the later lower engine compartment, but pictures tell the story. The type 1 engines would be less expensive to rebuild than the correct type 4, but are also not as strong mechanically or structurally and are usually less powerful as well. . . . both types of engine can be hotrodded to produce extraordinary power. It would in almost all cases make for a slower bus when traversing mountain passes and the like. Regards, and if you were closer I might well be your buyer. . . .
