Vehicle Detail
You are looking at one of the rarest of the rare Honda Insights. With gas prices going up now and most likely going up even more in the future, its time to get a car that saves your gas money Most of the time when you see an Insight listed it has the CVT, unfortunately they don't have the Lean Burn Cycle which means while they get fantastic mileage, they can't get the insane mileages the 5 speed manual transmissions can pull down. If you look at the pictures of my dash, two are while driving down the road (if my old hypermilers group saw those pictures they would go nuts because its obvious I'm not going for the insane mileage this car is capable of). Both pictures show 53 mph, the first shows the mileage since July 1st when I filled up last. 516 miles averaging 78.2 miles per gallon. July was hot enough that I was running the AC all the time. The second is since Aug. 1st showing 291 miles averaging 82.4 miles per gallon with the instant read bar showing 115 miles per gallon. August has been cool enough I have not run the AC much. The last dash picture shows the current miles on the car as of 8-17-12 as 123,082. The first picture of the dash shows some insane mileage, 127.6 mpg over a distance of 13.9 miles (my personal best). My personal best tank run was 1016 miles with 10.2 gallons to fill or 99.6 mpg. Will you be able to get these mileages? Maybe yes maybe no, it all depends on how you drive, once you learn how to drive it and stay in the lean burn cycle, you can thumb your nose at the Prius drivers knowing they can never catch up to your mileages. When I first started driving it and didn't know how to run the lean burn cycle, I averaged 55-60 mpg. When I was driving 500-2500+ miles a week for work this car was perfect, now if I drive 500 miles a month I am really driving a lot. It is time to give her up to someone who can put the little mileage maker to good use. Is that person YOU? All the electrical items work, power windows, power locks. The hybrid batteries hold lots of charge, when fully drained, they take about 18 miles to 80% recharge. The AC blows cold and has maintained its charge for the last 2 years. The only battery error I've gotten was when it was 90+ degrees outside and not running the AC the battery error for battery fan not cooling enough would come up. There is a small dent in the bottom of the rear bumper passenger side from someone hitting it in a parking lot (picture included). The bumper part is plastic and could easily be replaced. The hood doesn't sit quite right, picture not included because it wouldn't show up well. There are no rips or tears in the seats, dash or door upholstery. You will never have to worry about this car rusting, it is made of composites, aluminum and aluminum alloys. The car weighs only 1800 lbs and is one of the most aerodynamic on the road. For Honda this car was an exercise in how to get the absolute most mileage out of a car. Very little can be done to lighten or improve the aerodynamics of this car. Some hypermilers are putting a boattail on to improve aerodynamics. Of the 17,020 made from 1999 - 2006 roughly 2500 came to the USA and no telling how few were the 5 speed manual transmission. Since most Americans back then were not concerned about mileage most were sold with the CVT. In other words very few of the 5 speeds are left on the road, and even fewer are ever for sale. Bank and Cashiers checks will be verified by the bank before acceptance, so check scammers please don't bother. Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool.
