Vehicle Detail

I was looking for a Baja bug early this year but after months of searching, I got tired of looking through ad after ad of junky Baja bugs, trying to find a good one, so I decided to just build my own and do it right. This car is not beat up, its not a thrown together car on a shoe-string budget, its done right and ready to enjoy. The car is a 1967 Beetle that was cut into a Baja when I bought it. The body is very solid, and the pan is pretty nice as well. The body has no real rust or damage to speak about. The Pan is also rust free with the exception of a small tear where the battery sits, just like every other bug. Its not noticeable but its there. All the glass is in perfect shape, no cracks, and aside from the roll up door widows, really no scratches either. The door glass has some from possibly rocks. The front end is a one piece tilt front end with integrated bumper. The rear has fiberglass fenders that mount to the original fender mounting holes. The first thing I did when I got the car was to take it all the way apart. I smoothed out the body work and painted the car in Hot Rod Flatz Desert Tan paint. This is not a cheap primer job, Its actual paint sprayed with an actual paint gun, unlike the majority of baja's for sale on this site. I wanted a paint finish that would last but also be durable and not fade. The color looks fantastic and since its a semi gloss paint, you can wash it and clean it just like regular paint. Try doing that with primer and see how long it lasts... The paint job is not perfect, but its not supposed to be, it looks really good though and it will last, and that is what counts. Wheel wells were done with black rubberized under coating to cut down on noise and rock chips. After painting the car, I added brand new window rubber, door rubber and put all the glass back in the car. Mechanically the car has been renewed front to back. First I drained the trans, changed the axle boots, and added new trans fluid. Then I put on new KYB rear shocks. I followed that up with new brake lines, a new Master Cyl and new fluid. After the brakes were done, I dialed in the motor. The motor is a 1641cc dual port. It got new plugs, wires, cap rotor, fuel lines, air cleaner, Crank Pulley, fan pulley valve covers, valves adjusted, set timing and added a new exhaust with stainless muffler. Also I added a new clutch cable and Air Kewled 6 shooter clutch adjuster. The motor runs well and has good power and although it makes a nice noise, its not too loud to use daily, just the way I intended. Up front, I replaced all 4 Ball Joints with new ones, changed the steering dampener, new tie rod, and aligned the car. It goes down the road very straight and smooth now. At the same time I added coil over shocks up front for a bit more stability and lift. Inside I changed the shift bushing in the tunnel, and the rear shift coupler with a Urethane set up. On top of that I added an Empi shifter and the whole thing is smooth and tight. Inside the car the seats got new black seat covers, new door panels, and a black carpet kit with door sill plates. I added new rubber tunnel/floor mats for a nice clean factory look. I always disliked how most Bajas were totally unfinished inside, so I finished mine off the right way. The pedal cluster was taken out and rebuilt when the clutch cable and shift bushing were redone. It works so smoothly now. The car had a roll cage when I got it, and its still in there. It looks decent but I would suggest wrapping the top bars with padded material just to be safe. Outside the car I put it back together with new front tires, 4 Lug Centerline wheels, sprint bars on the sides, a light bar on the roof with really bright lights, and a rear bumper to protect the engine. I also bought a brand new steering wheel and horn ring with button. I added a new 12 volt battery, new headlights in chrome housings, tail lights, turn signals and side and rear view mirrors. I added an Autometer monster tach on a Fastfab mount. Then I registered it until Feb of 2013, so its totally legal on or off road! I built this car right, spent well more than your average Baja build, but I wanted a nice car that looked right, drove right and wasn't thrown together. I have receipts for all the parts and labor I paid for. I also have an offroad certificate for the car good until June 2013. This car is ready to go enjoy and take it to the next level if you like or leave it as is and enjoy, daily driven or off road. I would venture to say you won't find another one for sale that is this level of car for this kind of price, and thats exactly why I built it.
