Vehicle Detail
Selling my 1987 diesel wagon, wife says, "I have too many Mercedes!" This one seems the easiest to sell. If you are looking at this you probably know that these E class wagons are a unique and sought after car. My main regret is I didn't get to enjoy the first 23 years of it's life! I've had a couple diesels over the years and they've served me well. A year and a half ago we bought this from a North Carolina family to replace the '93 gas wagon that we enjoyed the previous 7 years. Take a good look at the photos, you'll see a pretty good example for a 25 year old car. The interior is very nice, dashboard, steering wheel and door panels are fresh looking. We definitely get the 30 percent extra fuel milage a diesel should offer over the gas equivalent. The turbo sounds great spooling up, and the torque makes driving this diesel a pleasure. The motor and tranny mounts feel great, someone spent some time and money attending to a lot of the regular wear items. I believe she drives runs and shifts like a Benz diesel with 228000 miles should. The AC has always been cold, never needed to add refrigerant. Oil pressure normal. The brakes are recent, strong and effective. All 4 tires are just about new, they run true, and give good all season traction. The suspension is nice, car rides at a good height and no issues with rear end system. I like the Euro headlights, and have no problems with bulbs or fuses. Seats, sunroof and cruise control work well. No warning lights or gauge issues. A few areas needing attention: the rear windows don't lower, the car came this way, and I haven't checked into this, but see regulators for sale on E-Bay. With the great tinting on all but the windshield the car stays cool enough for AC to bring the cabin temp back from the typical parking lot "bake job" no problem. We drove a couple hundred miles to a scout overnight and temp gauge stayed at 85 degrees, but I've noticed the engine temp creeps higher sometimes during stop and go driving with AC on, the weather has been very warm here this year, but I think something in cooling system is amiss. No oil consumption or loss issues, but probably due for a change. The body is practically rust free, with a fresh paint job, but the rockers are rusty under the car. This affects the passenger foot-well too, but the underside between rockers looks fine, as do the frame cross members etc. So the exhaust, drive-shaft, fuel and brake lines look normal. The nice after market Sony radio has jack for aux input, CD and FM rock, but AM reception is poor. Power antenna retracts and works great, just doesn't seem to pull in AM signal? There is a small crack in lower ½ inch corner of the windshield, so a few projects to make the car right, but car has had no problem passing New York inspection. Shoot me your questions, I'm not a mechanic, just a middle-age MB lover enjoying a variety of models the past 30 years. I will let the market set the price... no reserve, so you know if you bid, it counts. No added fees, final price is your total. Car is sold as-is, where is. I require a $200 deposit thru PayPal within 24 hours of auction close.
