Vehicle Detail
1970 Mercedes Benz 280 SE~A true all Original California Classic~Low Mileage German Luxury ~Last of the hand built Mercedes Benz~Original (050) "Weiss" White Paint~ Original Classic Gold on Blue California plates issued to this car over 42 years ago LOW RESERVE Bidding begins at .99 Cents! Up for auction is a beautiful all original 1970 Mercedes Benz 280 SE. The Mercedes Benz S models are the pinnacle of German luxury and quality this 1970 280 SE is a perfect example of why Mercedes was the benchmark 42 years ago and has continued the tradition of quality luxury automobile. The 108 bodies where produced from 1965 to 1973 and is one of the most iconic Mercedes sedans ever produced. This rare find came out of a Monterey estate and has seen minimal use over the course of it's lifetime. These 280 SE are a speical car that are becoming fewer and fewer; especially an original white with tan one with this kind of raw originality including it's dual blue California plates and 4 original hubcaps. Whether you are a Luxury car collector or fancy for a classy classic Mercedes, this 280se is a well kept original California classic, That is being sold at a very low reserve. Take a trip back in this affordable time capsule Please enjoy this video of this classic Mercedes Benz driving the back roads of Californiaclick the arrow in the center of the page click on full screen box on bottom right Cosmetically this car is in good original condition from the paint to the on into the interior. The original white (weiss #050) paint confirmed by the Mercedes Data Card shines beautifully for 42 years old. There is one small ding on the lower left quarter panel, other than that the paint is in very good shape for it's age. All the chrome and stainless pieces shine nicely with no pitting or rust erosion. Even the front Mercedes Benz emblem still shows the deep blue and chrome lettering, typically they are faded after 42 years. Overall the exterior is absolutely stunning for an un-restored 1970 280SE. The car is from the beautiful Monterey area of California. The interior is also in good shape. For the most part has held up very nicely throughout the years, The driver seat does has some rips on the seating surface cushion and a very small rip in the right rear seat. The door panels are in good shape except for the drivers door which is missing the cap or top part of the panel. The real wood grain trim appears to be in pretty good shape for it's age, a new coat of varnish will bring it right back to it's former glory. All the dash pieces are in good shape there is some spots in the passenger side that have some minor cracking. Overall for a 42 year old car that has not been restored at all this Mercedes is in great shape cosmetically. IT has the optional Becker radio and optional air. The ac does not blow cold but is functional. The belt is off the compressor but compressor spins freely. The power window lifts work correctly. To sum up a real time capsule that is in very original condition. The biggest negatives I see are the floor mat on the drivers side has some age wear in two spots. The drivers seating surface has some tears on the bottom section. The dash has some age wear from the California sun. Mechanically this car is in good running condition. The car starts up everytime on the first crank. There is no unusual noises coming from the engine bay. It shifts into all gears as well as reverse. The ignition switch spring is does not have a lock on it to keep it from spinning past ignition, after the 2nd time starting the car it becomes customary to just hold it at startup. The car rides like a 42 year old big body mercedes, not a brand new c63 amg.The front end is a little tired and in my opinion the shocks could be replaced as like any old car the steering is a little loser than newer cars. As far as the ride it is nice and smooth. I drove the car from Monterey area to the Bay Area in traffic with no issues. To sum up this is a very solid original California classic Mercedes that is being offered at a very low reserve.
