Vehicle Detail
This auction is for my 1970 GTO Convertible. It is a real 24267 car. It is not an H.O. car. I’ve owned the car since 1992 and have the title. I have the PHS documentation but there aren’t many original parts left on the car. It’s a factory A/C car but the A/C didn’t work when I got it and I never tried to get it working. There are a couple a/c brackets missing but the rest is complete. It has factory front disc brakes. I have a large folder of receipts that will go with car if they are wanted. The car was originally a 400/auto car. It now has a 1972 “YC” 455 with a fresh M20. I did the 4spd swap. The tunnel was neatly cut with the correct hump and console installed. It has a rebuilt Hurst shifter. The M20 was rebuilt by Ed Hartnett out of Ohio and was installed in 2004. The motor rebuild was done in 1999 and has less than 5k miles on it. The motor is .060 over and has an Edelbrock Performer RPM package (Alum intake, Alum heads -87cc round port, RPM cam, carb) Ram Air IV exhaust manifolds, Crane rockers, MSD 6AL box (mounted in glove box), MSD distributor, BeCool Alum radiator (in factory shroud). The motor runs very strong. The only issue is that it is missing the dipstick tube extension that presses into the block to guide the dipstick into the pan. I got the short block back from the motor builder and I never installed the tube. The rear is a 10 bolt posi with 3:90 gears. The rear is the only part of the drivetrain that I have not gone through. However it has never given me any issues. There are no noises or bangs around corners nor does it whine. I do not know the rear code. The exhaust is stock size running through Flowmasters. The interior is complete and in show condition. All the seats have been recovered and new carpet installed. The dash pad was restored by Just Dashes and is perfect. It has working Rally gauges with a working in-dash tach. The windshield is new. The door glass is old glass and in decent shape but the glass does have some scratches. The only interior issues are: cigarette lighter does not work; the “high” fan blower setting does not work (all other settings blow) and the horn does not work. It has a real GTO formula wheel that was recovered in leather by American Stitches in Texas. It has a new tilt column. However the steering wheel is off ¼ turn. The reason for this is that the car was originally a non-tilt car. The steering box is keyed differently for a tilt and non-tilt column. Non-tilt is keyed at 3 O’clock and tilt is keyed at 6 O’clock. Therefore the wheel is off clockwise 90 degrees. It can be adjusted through the ty-rods. The top was replaced in 1992. Since then 2 slits have developed in the corners above the qtrs from the top frame. It has a glass rear window. The body and paint were done in 1993. The car was painted with Sikkens urethane and has held up extremely well. Originally it was a Pepper Green car but was Orange when I got it so that’s the color I kept it. It has always been garaged and covered and has never seen a drop of rain since I've owned it. The frame, fenders, doors, interior floor pans, cowl, dash and windshield frame are all solid. The endura nose does have a few cracks in it. I never addressed the trunk. It's decent but does have a few weak spots. The rear qtrs. have been patched and do have body filler in them. I don't know what the original sheet metal looks like as I never took the car down to bare metal. When I did the body and paint I wasn't worried about the original sheet metal or what was done to it. I just wanted the car straight. And it is. However after 19yrs some areas have come through but all in all it still looks great. I have showed the car as it sits and have received incredible feedback. The rear bumper as well as the remote mirror has been re-chromed and all the bright work has been polished. The car currently has 15x6 Rally II’s with BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s (225-70/15 front-275-60/15 Rear). The wheels were sanded down and refinished and fitted with reproduction lug nuts. The tires have at least ¾ tread left. I do have a set of (5) 15x7 Rally II’s, that were blasted, for sale locally. I will include them with the car if the wheels are still available if the car sells. Mechanically this car is very strong. The front end was rebuilt around the time that I bought it and is still very solid. The original steering box was also rebuilt. For a 42 yo convertible this car is very quiet with the top up with very few rattles. The undercarriage is unfinished but relatively clean. The odomoter reads around 70k however I do not know the actual miles on the car. ***PLEASE NOTE: This car is for sale locally as well as nationally via other websites. I reserve the right to end the auction early do to an offline sale. The reserve for this auction is set considerably lower than what the car is advertised for elsewhere.*** NO INTERNATIONAL SALES!!!
