Vehicle Detail

No Reserve 1961 Sea Grave 800KB Pumper This has been a great Toy; I’ve driven it the last 2.5 years!! Up for auction is a 1961 Sea Grave Pumper Fire Truck. I believe I’m the fourth Owner. I truly enjoyed owning this truck and had planned on keeping it for the next few years. Unfortunately the new home I’ve moved into doesn’t have a parking space and I’ve reluctantly decided to sell. This truck was originally in service in Hawthorn, New Jersey. It was then retired and donated to the St Barnabas Burn Foundation that used it as part of a fire awareness program, that’s why there is a TV in one of the rear compartments. It then sat for some time before being purchased in December 2006 by a collector in Connecticut that had it shipped up. He went through the engine and brakes to get it running and drivable, then sold it to me a little over 2 years ago. VIN# SEAM8 4661 Licensed and on the road in CT with a Clear Title. I have the original St. Barnabas NJ Title. I also have bill of sale from St. Barnabas to the previous owner and one from the previous owner to me. CT does not issue titles to vehicles this old, so this will be sold on a bill of sale. All supporting documentation (titles and previous bills of sale) will be included. This has a 6 cylinder Waukesha Model F817G gas engine. It starts right up and had 2 new batteries installed right before I bought it. Earlier this month, I took it out to verify everything was in good working order before listing it and felt the brakes were a little soft, not something you want when driving a truck this big. It looked like there was a leak from the master cylinder, so I had it pulled, rebuilt and reinstalled. It now stops like it should. There are no known issues. That said, it is an old truck and being sold as is with no warranties. This is a pumper, but the lever to engage the pump is hard to move and I have never tried to engage it or pump with it. Neither did the previous owner from my knowledge, but all the parts are there. There is a claimed 2,000 miles on the engine, but this is not known for sure as the speedo was changed when owned by St. Barnabas. The New Jersey title shows mileage as 1,586. This is an open cab design. The frame for the convertible top that covers the front seat is included, but I do not have the old canvas top. The picture with the canvas top is from the original owner before I bought the truck. I had many new diamond plate parts made when I first got the truck. All the old pieces are included if you would like to have them re-chromed instead of the non-original diamond plate. (I.e. if you want to restore it to show standards all the parts are there to do it, if you just want to enjoy it, you can hop right in and drive it the way it is.) The only pieces I did not replace are the front tire stone guards (The old ones are of course included but they have some rust as do many of the other parts I replaced) and the larger one around the pump meters and controls. Overall the truck looks pretty good. There are some rust bubbles and faded paint. The worst area is the front driver side corner and can be seen in the second photo. For the most part, these are only cosmetic and not noticed by most of my friends or when I’d drive it around. That said they bug me, but I’m a bit of a car nut so you’d have to come and take a look for yourself. There are no known rust issues with the frame. The interior is usable but worn. I re built the jump seats (blasted and powder coated the frames and put on new wood) but did not do any upholstery work since I’ve purchased it. The big “gun” thing on the top is a foamer unit and is also included. The only item in the pictures that is not included, other than the canvas top, is the bell. We’ve become quite used to ringing it for dinner and had to agree to keep it before I was allowed to list the truck by my daughter. This is a NO RESERVE auction. It will be sold to the highest bidder unless it is purchased locally. AFTER YOU WIN (or before), YOU CAN INSPECT THE TRUCK AND THEN DECIDE IF YOU WANT TO COMPLETE THE PURCHASE. See below for full details. Please feel free to email any questions and I’ll get right back to you. Here are the Terms of Sale: This vehicle is located in Southbury, CT (about 30 miles from Hartford, 15 miles from Danbury), and is being sold without warranty. $100 is due within 48 hours of successful bid by wire transfer, cashier’s check or PayPal. The balance is due within 7 days of successful bid by wire or cashier’s check prior to pick up or shipment unless otherwise arranged – buyer is responsible for any sales tax payment or shipping costs. The successful bidder is welcome to have the vehicle inspected any time prior to final payment &/or pick-up. Let me say that again, if you have the winning bid on this truck and then find something wrong and you don’t want it, I’ll return your deposit. If you win and then come out and say you don’t like the color, I’ll refund your deposit minus the relisting fee. I strive to give a complete and fair listing of anything I sell on ebay but encourage you to ask about any concerns you may have or information you feel you need. You or your mechanic can come to conduct the inspection, or local mechanics are also available for hire. After your inspection should you find that I have misrepresented this listing in any way, your deposit will be refunded 100%. If you do not have an inspection or at least come out and look at the car and don’t purchase, the deposit is forfeited. Be aware this is a great truck but it is 52 years old and is used, so expect it to not be new. It’s USED, but it’s a GREAT fire truck. Shipping is the purchaser’s responsibility, though I will help coordinate shipment as much as possible. Delivery may be possible but would need to be negotiated separately. The truck must be paid for in full before it is shipped/delivered. i.e. you own the truck before it goes. The auction determines the price, the inspection determines if it fits your needs. If you have any questions prior to bidding contact me (Richard Wilson) via the “contact seller” option. This item is subject to prior sale, so bid early!! Your bid is a contract and I’ll follow eBay’s procedures for non-paying bidders. Please make sure you have your financing and insurance in place before you bid. Thank you for your interest!
