Vehicle Detail
I bought this BMW Isetta about 18 months ago to restore. It is very complete and except for the tires, is 99% plus original. It was in the estate of an 82 y/o man who had placed it in a shed after a small fender bender about 45 years ago. It had less than 17,000 original miles on it. I completed freeing it up, and then cleaning the frame, linkages, carburetor, gas tank etc., but not the body. I am now sick of working on it. After I adjusted the points and timing, changed the oil and cleaned the fuel tank and carburetor and freed up all of the frozen cables and linkages, it started up and ran pretty well. I put on new tires. The most difficult ( and expensive) parts to replace were the linkage "donuts" connecting the engine and transmission to the drive shaft. It has new brake lines and cylinders, a new ignition coil and a new soft top sunroof. It starts with a little effort, and then runs fairly well. The choke works, but i do not know the best setting in which to start it. It is titled and registered as an antique. I drove it and showed it in the show in Hershey, PA. I have driven it about 10 miles total. It does shift into, and drive in all gears including reverse. The frame, drive train, brakes and shocks all seem to be good. The cables all work including the emergency brake, heater, and choke. The windshield wiper and washer are all of there, but not hooked up. The horn does not work. The wiring seems to be good but not all of the lights turn on. The speedometer works, and i believe that the mileage is accurate. About 80 percent of the body is good. It has rusted through in only one small area at base of left rear fender, but has superficial rust over about 5 - 10% of the body. I hated to paint it, as it is all original paint. While about 85% is dull, it is not bad. I put on some primer in the back where there was some superficial and a little deep rust. It has all of the interior cardboard panels, and the original floor mat. The gear shift and heater knobs are original. The front bumper rusted off (I have it, but it is in bad shape), and there is a dent in the front door, but no significant rust there ( see photos). Rear bumper is rusty, but solid. The glass is pretty good, all around. The upholstery is all original and while dirty, is in very good shape with no tears or serious wear. I backed over and broke the gas cap. I glued it back together, and also bought a replacement. The chrome is pitted. It has a spare tire, tool kit and one original key. I was tempted to just have it buffed and polished, and have the small areas of rust repaired and painted to match. I hope to sell this vehicle, and believe that the reserve is fairly reasonable, at under $10,000.00. There is no warranty with this car, either implied or expressed. The buyer is responsible for making arrangements to have the vehicle picked up. Payment in full is expected within 7 days of sale, before the vehicle can be picked up or the title is transferred.
