Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this factory 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia camper with a 1.9 TDI engine conversion. This is a great looking, driving, and bulletproof Westfalia in an excellent color combo. This Vanagon has been in California most of it's life and before that it was originally sold new in Texas. Comes with a folder full of receipts that almost date back to it's beginning. One key works all locks and ignition switch. This is a rust free example with dry body seams, roof, doors, rear quarters, and undercarriage. All original metal and no signs of any serious accidents. Very nice body with excellent paint. Lots of recent work has been performed within the last 500 miles which includes all new: - Recent paint in it's original color of Wolfram Gray - Go Westy progressive lift springs - Heavy Duty Bilstein shocks on all 4 corners - B.F. Goodrich All Terrain tires - Berg short shift kit - 3 window pop top canvas - Pop top seals - All window seals - All 3 camper hook ups - Powdercoated Van-Cafe PZ style bumpers with front diamond plate insert - Lloyds all weather floor mats front and rear - Radio antenna - Wiper blades - Propane regulator - Timing belt and water pump - Oil change I am sure there are things I am missing that have recently been done but that is most of the large items done. This Vanagon has some great looking and very useful features/upgrades: Van-Cafe PZ style big bumpers, Stationary power mirrors, SA Rein 15" alloy wheels, Van-Cafe front big brake kit, Original PZ headlight kit and grill with projector headlights (this is by far the best low beam headlight set up I have ever driven with), the lift springs and Bilsteins give it a great Syncro style height and a nice ride, and the 3 window pop top canvas is a great upgrade from the original single window style. The 1.9 TDI was professionally installed in Canada and is an excellent and rare feature and to get one installed nowadays you are looking at a starting price around $17,000 for this conversion only. This engine conversion is powerful and very trustworthy compared to the original engines. These motors last for 300,000 plus miles before needing any major services as compared to the original waterboxer Vanagon engines which need a major service around every 75,000 miles. Best of all there is no smog required as it is currently licensed in California and has gone through the necessary requirements to be titled as a diesel and has that noted on the title as well. The mileage is a little better than stock with this conversion, but don't expect Jetta TDI MPG numbers. As for those of you that want to run Biodiesel and be Earth friendly, you can do that as well in this one. All mechanical is in good working order and this Vanagon is ready to be driven anywhere with all it's current service needs up to date. Engine runs strong, transmission shifts well and does not have any differential noises, brakes work well, turn signals, brake lights, running lights, interior lights, front and rear heaters, gauges, CD player, sink, etc. all work as they should. The camping equipment could use some sorting out as the stove and the fridge both work but not as well as they should. The tachometer is the only gauge not working as the TDI engine does not use a coil so there is no signal to send to the tachometer. This Vanagon did come front the factory with A/C but it is not hooked up and should be a fairly simple fix for the new owner. The interior is all original and in very good condition and has been recently cleaned and detailed and is ready to be used. This Vanagon is very complete with all original curtains including the snap in front curtain, rear mosquito net, front table and leg, owners manuals, and the original jack with the bag and tools. Overall this is a very special Vanagon Westfalia that is sure to give it's new owners years of enjoyment and compliments. Clear California title and current registration included with the sale. This auction is being listed with no reserve and will sell to the highest bidder.
