Vehicle Detail
This wonderful survivor T Bird is being offered at NO RESERVE! On June 15th, 1964, John Rattle walked into Jett Motors in Kansas City Missouri on a mission. He had spotted a 1962 Thunderbird Convertible in the Kansas City Times earlier that morning and it was just what he was looking for. Mr. Rattle had moved to Kansas City from southern California a few years earlier and had longed for the days of riding with the top down in the California sun. Well, Kansas City is no Los Angeles but he was going to buy a convertible anyway. The Thunderbird that Jett Motors had that summer day was a Sky Mist Blue, T Bird convertible that was sold originally at Southtown Ford right in Kansas City. The T Bird was equipped with the Z code 390 engine with 300 horsepower, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, power windows and of course a power convertible top. After a test drive and some haggling, Mr. Rattle agreed on a price of $2,600.00 and paid for the car. The original bill of sale from Jett Motors dated 6-15-64 goes with the sale of the car. The car was brought home and put into the garage where it would reside, except for fair weather days and special occasions, for the next 48 years. This car was loved like a child and it even comes with Mr. Rattles little notebook "diaries," of what he did with and to the car for years at a time. He would even document pulling it out of the garage and then pulling it back in without ever going anywhere. Also included in the sale is an original 1962 T Bird promotional book, and the original Kansas title from 1964. The car was recently removed from the same garage it had been residing in for the last 48 years. The car is in amazing condition, and appears to be wearing its original paint from 1962. No evidence of accidents or repairs whatsoever. It starts and runs great, it has a matched set of bias ply tires that quite possibly been on there since the 70s. The power windows work like new with now drag or hesitation. The incredible part is that the power top mechanism with all of its solenoids and connections, works like it is brand new. The top going up or down works absolutely flawless with every cycle. The interior is all original but did not fair quite as well as the exterior. The seats are dry and have a few places where the seems have separated, but for a 50 year old car it is pretty good. The top was replaced in 1980 and is still in very good condition. The swing away steering wheel works perfectly and the gauge cluster is near mint. The radio works and the the speaker is clear as a bell. I am offering this T Bird at no reserve. Please do not bid unless you intend to buy. This is for the sale of the T Bird not to be first in line to look! Please do all inspections before bidding. I encourage all bidders to drive and inspect the car....you will not be disappointed. I require a $2000 nonrefundable deposit within 48 hours of the auction close and the remainder within 7 days of the auction end.
