Vehicle Detail

Here is my 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser 9-passenger station wagon, with only 68,025 documented miles, a true CREAMPUFF. It is equipped with a 350 cubic inch Rocket V8 and Turbohydramatic 350 transmission. This is a California and Arizona car that has been pampered and extremely well cared for throughout its 40+ years. This car is in excellent condition and very original. EXTERIOR: Body is extremely straight with glossy paint in Astro Blue with original vinyl woodgrain. Paint was freshened recently to remove scratches. No rust. Deep shine. Car has been garaged while I have owned it. Woodgrain vinyl is not sunbaked and faded, suggesting that this Vista has been stored under cover a good part of its life. Vinyl does show some small wear spots. Chrome mouldings are in excellent condition with good shine. Pillar chrome on passenger side has three pea-sized dings. Some scratches to these mouldings. On tailgate, upper chrome moulding has overall fine scratching. Front bumper has a small area of damage where the hood tooth gouged it. Something must have been out of alignment for a time, but this is no longer an issue. Right grille has a piece missing along the lower edge. Rear bumper has a small, shallow dent to the right of the step. Chrome on the roof rack is in good condition. The roof rack chrome strips were not reinstalled after the paint was freshened, to provide a cleaner look. They will be included with the vehicle. Lock button on the driver’s front fender is for a car alarm. Glass is excellent. There is one pea-sized rock chip on rear passenger door window. Vista roof glass panes are in excellent condition and not delaminating. Original wheels have been replaced with a set of 4 Oldsmobile Super Stock III 15” rally wheels with trim rings that are in excellent condition. Tires are B F Goodrich Advantage GT with less than 1,000 miles. I have the original hubcaps and they will go with the car. INTERIOR: Headliner is clean and tight. There is one small hole near the dome light, less than ½” and another hole over the driver’s head, about 1/4”. Both sets of visors are in excellent condition. Passenger visor has correct Oldsmobile mirror. Blue looped pile carpet is in excellent condition. . There is some very slight carpet staining just outside the areas that would be covered by the mats. There is slight thinning over the transmission hump, facing the driver’s side. Carpet on the lower door panels is excellent. Carpet over the rear deck area is in excellent condition also. However, there is some sun fading so that the three sections appear as slightly different shades of blue. Set of four blue heavy vinyl Oldsmobile floor mats are present and in good condition. I believe they are original. Dash is in excellent condition and is not cracked. Steering column has some semicircular scratches near the ignition, from keys or key ring. Radio is original AM only and it works. The original owner’s manual is in the glovebox. Front seat bottom only has been reupholstered and matches very well. While front seat was out at the upholstery shop, I took pictures of the floor to show how clean and dry the floor pans are. Seat belts are all in good condition. To minimize the number of belts in the front seat, only driver and passenger lap belts were reinstalled. I have the other belts, and they will go with the car. Front seat head rests are in excellent condition. The lower back of the front seat has some small scuffs and abrasions. Second and third seats are in excellent condition. Weatherstrips on both front doors are worn. All four door panels and arm rests are excellent. The lower plastic pillar trim panel on the passenger side has some odd discoloration. The cargo area shows some wear. There are numerous scratches to the metal edges of the cargo deck panels. The covering on the spare tire housing has several small tears and holes, some of which are taped. Spare tire is an oldie. All jack components are present and in excellent condition. Informational label is present in the spare tire area. Wheel well/spare tire area is clean and without rust or damage. If there was a plug at the bottom, it is missing. Hidden storage area below cargo deck is clean and bone dry. Vinyl floor cover is present as well as insulating pads, and prop to hold this panel open. Inner tailgate stainless strips are present and in very good condition. Tailgate carpet is in very good condition. ENGINE/TRANSMISSION: Engine runs strong and smooth. I believe this is the original engine. Engine compartment is clean. Transmission shifts through all gears smoothly. This vehicle has been mechanically maintained. There is a minor rear main oil seal leak. There are no other known mechanical issues. EQUIPMENT: All functions work on operating equipment such as exterior and interior lights, speedometer, odometer, horn, wipers, windshield washer, switches, heat, air conditioning (converted to R-134), door locks, hood lock, remote tailgate window control, tailgate window motor, and radio. Windshield washer reservoir was replaced as the original was brittle and cracked. Location and size were changed to move it out of the way when changing the battery. Car alarm is untested, vintage 1970s. Good alignment, steering and suspension. Good brakes and solid exhaust. No known issues with any equipment. FEATURES AND OPTIONS: This is a 3 seat, 9 passenger station wagon. Options include air conditioning, roof rack, carpeted cargo area, rear air deflector (spoiler), a convenience group of accessory lighting, and interior-operated hood lock. The rear seat faces forward. The panoramic roof glass on a Vista Cruiser was reportedly inspired by the raised roof design of the Greyhound Scenicruiser bus. A second pair of visors is available for passengers in the middle seat. The tailgate operates in two directions: it swings down like a typical tailgate, or out like a typical door. The rear bumper has an integrated step that is visible only when the tailgate is opened as a door. The second seat is a 65/35 split, affording multiple up/down configurations with both rear seats. Second and third seats fold flat and according to a brochure, leave, “a clean sweep that is 10 feet long with the tailgate down”. Shoulder belts are not integrated into the lap belts. When not in use they are stowed separately, along the edge of the headliner. According to a 1970 Vista Cruiser brochure, standard features include: chrome-framed, grained vinyl side and tailgate panels, carpeted passenger area floors, carpeted cowl and lower door panels, chromed side window frames, roof drip molding and wheel opening accents, foam-padded seat cushions, deluxe steering wheel, Vista-Roof sun visors, concealed windshield wipers, central dome light and tailgate dome light, burl-grain instrument-panel overlay, and front and rear armrests. Overall length is 218.2 inches, that’s 18 feet 2 13/64 inches. Curb weight is 4,284 lbs. Taillight lenses on the 1970 (only) Vista Cruiser have 10 stainless fins! HISTORY: I have a thick folder of paperwork on this car to document the mileage. Included are two Protect-O-Plates, in the names of the first two owners. The date of March 22, 1970 is on both plates, and I believe this is the build date. If that is correct, this Vista is 42 years and 2 months old. The first owner purchased it with 36 miles on the odometer from Paul Dibert Motors in Redwood City. CA. It was resold at the same dealership with 5,963 miles. I don’t know the date of that transaction. I purchased it from the estate of the wife of the second owner 10 years ago, with 65,329 miles. Clear title. OVERALL: Impeccably maintained vehicle inside and out with very low mileage. Iconic 70s suburban station wagon that has never been abused or molested. Rides like a dream, runs beautifully and ready to go. I have provided 70 pictures of this ‘70 wagon. TERMS: $500 nonrefundable deposit due within 48 hours via Paypal.
