Vehicle Detail
I’ve listed this for a friend... the same guy I just sold a nice Porsche 911 for 32K on Ebay back in Janurary of this year. Same reason- he bought a brand new Porsche Panamera and suddenly decided to downsize some of his collection. I plan on being extremely honest and probably hyper-critical of this car so the buyer will be aware of the issues the owner and I were able to find to list. I want to keep my perfect EBAY 100% feedback rating. Overall, it is a lot of fun to drive and cruise around town in. It handles very well and steers great and does not pull left or right. You can go out right now and have a great time cruising the town but I do want to list things that I would personally attend to that would put it in EXCELLENT SHAPE. This is a great looking black Porsche 356 Speedster Replica. Now the commercial. It is real in the sense that it is tangible, physical, actual automobile. But it is a replica....fiberglass... VW body and engine. This is not a Beck or Factory Five version of the Speedster. The gauges are vintage looking, but not VDO. The steering wheel works fine, but doesn’t have the harmonious lines of the banjo spoke original. The car has a push button start. Not Formula One style. You put the key in, turn it, and then press a button on the dash. Why? No idea. It looks great from 10 yards away. It turns heads and people ask lots of questions. It hides behind Porsche and Speedster logos. But if you think it is anything more, you will be disappointed. This vehicle was purchased by the current owner over three and a half years ago. When purchased the odometer read 15,047 miles. Since then it has been driven less than 150 miles. The owner lives less than a mile from his office and only used it to drive to work on days that were perfectly sunny, not too cold, not too hot, when he didn’t have to drop the kids off, and didn’t want his hair messed up. In other words, it sat it the garage, under cover. The previous owner had the car registered in Nevada. The current owner is not aware of the vehicle being owned anywhere other than California, Nevada or Florida.A word about the VIN. The car is currently registered in Florida as a 1999 Porsche convertible. The Vehicle Identification Number used on the Florida Certificate of Title is CA498325, which was the Assigned Identification Number issued by the state of California Motor Vehicles to the car’s original assembler, as evidenced by a metal plate in the driver’s door well. However, the vehicle also has a “Bureau of Automotive Repair” metal plate that gives “Vin No. 26382 A 29225”, and indicates the vehicle was a 1973 VW 1600. Not sure whether that is a VW chassis tag, but the Florida registration went along with the VIN on the California title and bill of sale. PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR STATE to see if this will work. It worked fine for the current owner, but it is up to you to find out if your state will let you register this vehicle before you bid.The fiberglass Speedster replica body was manufactured by Fiberfab International, in Minneapolis, MN., and is badged as “I.D. No. FS1084”. Again, I assume the chassis is from a 1973 VW. The engine is a 1973 VW 1600cc 4-cylinder air cooled engine, with an engine ID of AH120127. The distributor is a VW 094 type. It has a single barrel carb. The owner replaced the carburetor, rotor, cap, condenser and spark plugs at purchase, and did a tuneup, oil change and valve adjustments as well. No other mechanical repairs have been done since purchase. The vehicle is mechanically sound but has a few MINOR (I DO MEAN "MINOR") issues I believe worth listing but are minimal in time and cost. 1. The rod to support the front hood is overly flexible and occasionally gives way (but only when you stick your head under the hood.... ask me how I know). Possibly $50 or less to fix.2. The brake pedal is missing the return spring, and so a piece of string limits its travel. Tacky but effective. Probably a $10 problem/part (if that).3. The brakes need adjustment / bleeding. 4. Several of the vaguely vintage gauges don’t seem to do much. 5. At some point in the past the car had a cover, as it has snaps around the cockpit. No top or cover to go with the car now. 6. Windshield wiper motor should be replaced. They work but I believe they are inefficient in strength and speed for road use. The owner & master fabricator @ HIPPIE's HOTRODS OF OCALA 352-208-9255, rates the floor pans a (9.5/10), paint job 8/10, chassis (9/10) & the body is a (10/10). Winner bidder will need to make a non-refundable $750 deposit immediately at the end of the auction thru PAYPAL. The remaining amount will need to be paid within 7 days from the end of the auction. I would like the remaining amount in cash. Cashier Check could possibly require a hold for 4-7 business by my bank (FYI). The car will not be released until the transaction is complete. Winning bidder will need to make their own arrangements regarding pick-up or shipping. I DO RESERVE THE RIGHT TO PULL IT OFF OF EBAY IF IT SELLS ON A LOCAL MEDIA OUTLET THAT IT IS ADVERTISED ON IF NO BID IS PRESENTLY PLACED ON IT.
