Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1966 Triumph TR4A. This car is in very good condition. The odometer shows 103092 miles which I believe to be correct It starts easily, drives very well and is a lot of fun to drive. It can be driven and enjoyed immediately. I have owned the car for the past 7years and have worked extensively on it as noted below. In the fast few years, I have driven it minimally and it is time to sell it. Please feel free to submit any questions and I willl answer as best I can. ConditionEngine/Transmission/Brakes/SuspensionThe engine is very strong. It starts easily and runs smoothly. When cold, the engine will emit blue smoke when started, particularly after sitting for awhile. Compression is good on all 4 cylinders. In 2007, the engine compartment was disassembled with only the block and heads in place. It was cleaned and repainted (see photos). The Stromberg carburators were refurbished and micropolished. The engine does not have the aftermarket rear main seal, and like most Triumphs, leaks oil at this location. The transmission shifts fine. The brake system on this car was rebuilt with the master and wheel cylinders rebuilt. The brake system was converted to silicon fluid. The car has a tube shock conversion kit. The front springs have been replaced. ExteriorThe car was repainted about 7 years ago by the previous owner. There are no visible signs of rust. The car has Panasport wheels which are in like new condition. The car has radial tires with no measurable tread wear. On the right passenger side, the rocker panel and lower front fender are damaged (see photos). While visible, this does not detract from the overall appearance of the car. The convertible top is in good condition except for a small hole shown in the corner of the window (see photo). Included is a tonneau passenger compartment cover and a car cover for storage. InteriorThe interior of the car has been completely refurbished. This included new carpets and door panels, new wood dash, and a sport steering wheel. The car was refitted with a new Sony AM/FM/CD radio and speakers were added (2 under dash, 2 rear). A maintenance manual and the original (I believe) owners manual is included, as well as a scrapbook on the car. HistoryI have been able to trace the history of the car back to the 1970's. The VIN number indicateds that the car was originally manufactured in 1965, and was the practice then, the title indicates the year it was sold. There have been 9 owners that I know of. An early owner told me that he believed the car was originally titled in Virginia, then made its way to Columbus Ohio. Some receipts show this could have been as early as 1974. In the early 1980's the engine was overhauled and the body refurbished. . The owner immediately prior to me repainted the car. While I have owned the car, I replaced the interior (described above), detailed the engine compartment, added the wheels, and did the suspension work described above. A scrapbook that I have assembled has details of the history as best I know it. It also includes photos of the work I did and the early 1980's restoration. On May-03-12 at 16:21:33 PDT, seller added the following information: May 3 revision. I received this note from a former owner who viewed the listing. I had met him previously, and some photos of the work he did are included in the scrapbook I made for the car. Note that the car was repainted again about 2005 by the owner I bought the car from."Hi, we met at BCD in xxxxx a few years ago, I owned that car from the late 70's to about '86. Just fyi, I rebuilt the engine at around 85,000, the current mileage is likely correct. When I painted the car, I stripped it to bare metal, it had the original paint prior to that. I had installed TR-6 springs as well as a TR-6 sway bar at the front. I also rebuilt the gearbox and clutch, new bearings and synchros, etc. I also put new u-joints in the drive line and rear axles. Good luck with you sale, it was a great car."
