Vehicle Detail
Here's my 1987 Pontiac Grand Prix LE V8 and its interesting past. The original owner (Mr. Burke) purchased this car from Burdette Brothers Pontiac in Clarksburg, Maryland when the car was delivered from the factory on April 30, 1987. The salesman's name was Don. Total retail price was $15,220.00. Mr. Burke bought what he percieved as a modern collectible since this would be the last year for the body on frame, rear wheel drive, personal luxury style V8 powered Grand Prix. The '88 model would be smaller, front wheel drive, sleeker but with much more plastic. He held onto the car until 2000 when he sold it with just 539 miles showing on the odometer to Mr. Shultz, an elderly man who planned on using the Pontiac regularly. He fell ill shortly thereafter and stopped driving the car with just over 1,000 miles on it. When he passed away, the car went to his son who dearly cared for it and seldom drove it in Virginia. I purchased the car from him in 2009 when it had 1,450 miles on it and have enjoyed it tremendously even though I only put 470 miles on it. This car still smell new inside as well as in the engine bay. There is no wear to the seats, dash, door panels, carpets, etc. The interior is as new. The engine pulls strongly and idles whisper quietly and the transmission shifts effortlessly. The car's tires are even the originals. In fact, the only item not original is the battery. The car is loaded with options such as: bucket seats with console, power door locks, Soft Ray tinted glass, power windows, front and rear carpet floor mats, body side moldings, intermittent wipers, padded landau vinyl top, electric rear defogger, air conditioning, visor vanity mirror, cruise control, 5.0 liter V8 4bbl. engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, tilt sreering wheel, lamp group, AM/FM ETR sterio radio system, guages, and power antenna. The LE option upgraded many of the appearance pkgs. of the car such as wide lower body stainless steel trim and upper body pinstriping. As you can see by the photos, the car looks new and fresh. It's 25 years old however and not quite perfect. There are a few small blemishes in the paint on the roof that look like they were caused by bird droppings and there's a small chip/ding on the front right fender as seen in the picture. The car is mechanically perfect except that the ventilation air conditioning has finally lost its refrigerant and will need to be recharged. Obviously, with less than 2,000 miles, the brakes are performing like new as are all the suspension components, the engine, transmission, electical, etc. There is no door sag and the trunk lid and hood open and shut with ease. i have the antenna motor unplugged because it runs continuously otherwise. I have purchased a brand new power antenna which, of course, goes with the car. An illness in the family is forcing the sale of this car. Otherwise, I had envisioned keeping it idefinitely. I love this Pontiac and want it to go to someone who will appreciate it as much as I do. I seriously doubt that there is another one like it with kind of low mileage anywhere. If you have any questions, please use the e-mail form on this auction site. I won't answer phone calls unless I arrange one personally through e-mail first.
