If you want a depenable car that gets great fuel mileage and will run for hundreds of thousands of miles, THIS IS THE CAR! It may not be pretty but, it will give years of trouble free service. 1981 Mercedes 240D, 4 speed stick, 96000 miles, service history from 1997. I am a Mercedes trained technician and own my own repair shop. I bought this car, from the original owner, with 91k on it and not running. The owner kept it for years because she was sentimentally attached to it. But, it stopped running because the fuel went bad and she decided it was time to sell it. I removed the fuel tank, had it cleaned, and coated inside and out. The fuel tank has a lifetime warranty from Tank Renu. It ran so well I decided to use it for my long commute. I did a 90,000 mile service to it, new filters, new trans fluid, rear end fluid, brake and power steering fluid, repacked the front wheel bearings, adjusted valve clearence and injection pump timing, and put new belts on it. Then as the weather got warmer, I put a brand new A/C compressor and reciever drier and converted it to new refridgerant! The problem is I can't get comfortable in it, it's a long story but, my hip is bad and certain car seats bother it. I have put 5000 miles on this car this year. It has recent Michelin tires on it, brakes and suspension are in excellent condition. Mechanically the car needs nothing! The interior is pristine! The cruise control works, so does the block heater, and I put in a used Dual stereo so I could listen to my Ipod but, I have the original AM/FM. I have gotten as high as 34 MPG but the average is 32 MPG highway. Plus, diesel is cheaper than regular right now! The car is rusted, both front fenders, right rocker and rear wheel arches. Floors and trunk still solid. This could easily convert to a waste vegi oil burner. I have the car for sale locally and will remove it if it sells.
