Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1962 Austin Healey MK II . The prior owner had the car from 1997 to 2011and only used it as a "weekend driver". He owned a trucking company and the car was maintained by his mechanic, as a result I do not have all of the records of what was done. Every thing works, the engine starts right up with the proper oil pressure and very little smoke only on start up, when it is warmed up the smoke goes away and the car has very good syncos in the transmission, shifts smoothly and the overdrive works properly. The gauges all work and the steering wheel is adjustable and in very good shape. The horn does not work but I think it is a loose connection. The car does not overheat in our hot Charleston, SC weather. Sooo, his mechanic knew what he was doing! Best of all is that this car was built in early 1962 and has two weber carbs rather than the 3 carb model which is notorious for being almost impossible to keep in adjustment! In the last few months I have had the brake system overhauled for about $820.00. The odometer shows 30,845 miles which I believe to be correct as it had 27, 500 miles when it was titled in 1997. It was titled as a 1963 car, but after checking the production records is should have been 1962. The colorado red paint job is fine for a driver, but is not a body off paint job. It has a few rock chips as would be expected and the pictures will show the only 2 scratches which have been touched up. All five tires are in good shape with plenty of tread left. The wire wheel have been recently repainted the proper silver color. The suspension is excellent. The top is new and the back window is clear. The side curtains are brand new and you can see in the pictures that the paper is still on the plexiglass. The small attachment brackets did not come with the side curtains, but they are available at a small cost. I have not purchased them as I do not drive it in the rain. The tonneau cover is in excellent shape and fits properly. The interior is in very good shape with no tears or excess wear in the vynal seats, dash and carpets. It does have 4 seat belts that have been fitted to the car. What is really unusual is that it has an original British Motor Corp. radio in the car. The body is rust free and the frame, dog legs and cross members are all in good shape. It has relatively new chrome all around that is rust free. This car could be a candidate for a full restoration or can be used as a "driver" which will win awards in local shows. On Apr-10-12 at 14:44:08 PDT, seller added the following information:The Healey is a 2 carb model with 2 SU carbs, not the Webers as mentioned in the above description. I am having trouble adding pictures of the underside of the car, however, I have gone over the underside very carefully and scraped some of the paint and undercoating off where it is beginning to flake off.I have found nothing but some surface rust under the flakes.I also failed to take a picture of the brand new side curtains. They are right out of the box and the plexiglass is covered in paper so as not to get scratched. All of the dog legs are perfect as are the floor boards. I forgot to mention that the engine has an electronic ignition installed. The underside could use a real good pressure wash.
