Vehicle Detail

Datsun Sports Car, 1969 with completely remanufactured engine and rebuilt transmission. I bought this car on Ebay from Texas a few years ago with 110,000 miles on it, but in nice shape. I found the engine had problems, and it took me a while to get around to rebuilding it. It was completely torn down, everything redone by a top local shop. Bored out 0.30, new pistons and connecting rods, wrist pins, the crank was ground. New bearings, distributor, timing chains, gears/sprockets, tensioners, water pump, oil pump, valves, valve seats, valve guides - etc, etc. Carbs remanufactured by Z Therapy, the best and better than new. Head rebuilt and line bored. This car simply has a virtually new engine. Over $3000 invested in the engine alone. Front end was completely rebuilt by the previous owner. Has newer stereo, hidden under dash. Newer speakers, by previous owner. I never drove it with the top on, except driving it home to New Jersey. A fun ride, but the power wasn't there and I knew it needed to be rebuilt. These are fun cars, and if you think it looks like a MGB, it is a lot like one, but actually came out before the B. Both are copies of the Austin. The big difference is that the Datsun has TWICE the horsepower of an MGB or Austin. 135 HP from the factory. 5 Speed overdrive transmission. Front disk brakes. Tube header exhaust. New front and rear brake pads, cylinders and master cylinder. The car is now very fast. I have driven it only about 150 miles since the rebuild, and have been gentle, but some times you just need to "see what she has". The truth: The paint is not great, there is a touch or rust here and there, but not bad. Some putty here and there too, it is a 43 year old car. It could use a new paint job soon. Rear bumper is pretty rusty, and I have a spare included which is good otherwise, but needs to have a dent repaired which I'm told isn't hard for a bumper shop. Chrome otherwise ranges from good to fair. Good rubber on Pirelli tires. Crappy mirrors, but I have new ones never installed. Interior is all there, but needs improvement to look its best. Has a good thermo-formed dash cover (stock dashes always crack). Comes with:Black convertible top with coverWhite hard top (rare and cool)New tonneau cover, never even installedNew interior door panels never installedUsed Roll bar, never installedGood spare used rear end differential (supposedly has just 20,000 miles)Rear end seal rebuild kit newNew spare ignition wire setNew Nissan Mirrors never installedNew Shifter cover, not installedNew Nissan speedometer 0-140, never installedNew Nissan spare cam: This is the factory racing cam, the very rare "B" cam.Complete air pump assembly in excellent condition included in case you want to make the car truly stock/restored.Spare Clutch and armSpare radiatorSpare complete distributor (used but good)Spare starterSpare (2) large chain guidesSpare RadioParts car with some good parts (take the parts car or strip it and I'll junk it)Lots of other parts These cars have a lot of fans, and p[art are available from several sources. There are a number of good sources for information on these cars as well. Do a search for "Datsun" and "311" I got a great deal on a Corvette and so the Datsun has to go. I have well over $10,000 invested, but that is the way with fixing up older cars, my loss is your gain. I strongly encourage you to come see and drive the car. My Ebay feedback is good and I want to keep it that way. On Apr-01-12 at 16:42:16 PDT, seller added the following information: Also included is a spare transmission that worked well, but was slightly clunky into secondOn Apr-05-12 at 08:14:05 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had many questions on the paint and rust. There is no cancer visible, only a couple of small patches of rust, one over the trunk lid (common) and one on a scratch on the bottom of the passenger door. Another is on the rocker at the back of the passenger door, where it seems to have been scraped. The other is at the corner of the trunk opening. All (I think) are shown in the newer pictures, and are not rust-through. There are three spots where the paint has chips and shows that there is putt under it. I assume there was some body work done and the putty was not properly roughed up before the paint was applied. I was serious when I listed the "Truth" about condition. It isn't a bad body, just not a very good paint job.On Apr-05-12 at 08:18:33 PDT, seller added the following information: Also, It comes with a 4 hub caps, I forgot to put the front ones on after doing the brakes. The truck lock is missing. The parts car has some good parts, it only had 50,000 miles or so, but was poorly kept. It has no engine. On Apr-05-12 at 11:59:49 PDT, seller added the following information: One more note, the "B" cam is used, not new, sorry - and there are other spares, like a spare head. Head rebuild included replacing the valve insert seats, guides and seals, it was a complete remanufacture. Actual miles since rebuild is under 150, I just never took note of the odometer. The car is just not "me" at 58 years of age, I like my 'Vette. Yes, I would be confident to drive the car any distance. The spare tranny is really very good, but before I put it in a car I'd replace the second gear syncro ring. Keep the questions coming.
