Vehicle Detail
First off, the pictures make the car look better than it looks in person. Up for bid is my 1970 442 Post Coupe, stock numbers matching 455, front bench seat and back seat reupholstered, factory black car, tic-toc-tac (clock not working), runs and drives excellent, manual brakes (drums), power steering, sport steering wheel (horn not working), the 3.91 rear end and four speed trans. are not original to the car. With what it was originally equipped, I don't know. I have the broadcast sheet which shows it is a bench-seat car from the factory. There is no A/C and there are no vents on the dash. Some of the pics show the car with SS1 wheels. They do NOT come with the car. The car comes with steel wheels pictured and the pie pan hubcaps (new). I thought those were appropriate for a stripped-down post coupe. The back tires will have to be replaced because they are old and cracked (but driveable for now). As for rust, the floor pans are solid, the trunk is solid, the frame is solid, the quarter panels behind the rear wheels are rusted. Above both of the rear wheel wells is rusted. Around the lower trunk lid is rusted, as well as where the trunk latches above the back bumper (see pics). There is some surface rust on the hood and a few other places on the body. There is some rust inhibitor on the body in places to keep it from spreading. There is also some rust along the bottom outer edge of the driver's door. I have another post door that will go with the car to replace the one on the car. There is no rust behind the front wheels. There are some slight scratches on the windshield that could be buffed out. The rest of the glass is perfect. The wipers, radio and speedo are not working. The trim around the windows and door frames are good. They just need polishing. In conclusion, so many of these oldsmobiles were equipped with all the bells and whistles and automatic transmissions, this 442 is at the other end of the spectrum and so different from other 442s you will find. A rare four speed post coupe, factory black, bench seat is well worth the extra effort of restoring. This car runs great...it feels different than the automatics. If I had the extra money I would keep it. I've got to pay some bills! For sale in the U.S. and Canada only........unless Wheeler Dealers wants it. If anyone has any questions, my name is Paul 405-808-4567.
