Vehicle Detail

This is a very nice 1955 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible in gray with a white top. This is not a show car but it is extremely nice and could be restored with moderate effort and expense to show quality if you were so inclined. When I purchased this vehicle ten years ago, I was told that the owner was the son of the original owner and that it had always been garaged. I have always garaged this Cadillac since it has been in my possesson. In the last ten years, I had the engine and transmission rebuilt (with less than 2,500 milles on each since rebuild), replaced the top and replaced the interior except for the top rails on the doors and the dash which were in good enough shape. The vehicle has 7 year old non-radial, white wall tires with less than 2,500 miles on them and a match spare in the trunk. Apart from battery issues from sitting for a few months at a time between uses, this Caddy has always started and run reliably. WIth the engine restoration it takes unleaded gas. There are no visible signs of rust on the vehicle as I walk around it performing a a visual inspection, except for the normal very light surface rust inside the engine compartment and a bit of light surface rust under the trunk liner. I have not removed any panels to check for rust since I did the major restoration work about 8 years ago. At that time my mechanic and I were both impressed how we found no significant rust. Since then it has been in my garage and never driven in the rain. There is one 2 1/2 inch dimple crease in the driver side back quarter panel where an item fell off a shelf in moderate earthquake in 2006 and hit the car. Otherwise the body is really nice and the paint job is nice, too. I don't know when the car was last painted but it is an original Cadillac color and it still has nice shine and no obvious signs of being a amateur paint job. I was never inclined to repaint it and I have received many compliments on how nice it is. PLEASE NOTE THAT DRIPS AROUND CAR ARE FROM WASHING PRIOR TO TAKING PICTURES. Chrome was redone on the tailpipe covers and virtually all of the interior chrome. Both bumpers are in nice condition. There is some pitting on the chrome window trims and the side view windows. The hood ornament was rechromed and the cadillac insignias have been refreshed as well. The convertible top has a 1 1/2 inch tear on the drivers side above back passenger window. I always drove the vehicle with top down and did not bother to repair or replace the top when the small tear appeared but I was told it could be repaired. Similarly, I never bothered to redo the the interior of the convertible top which would need to have the header fabric replaced to bring the cabin into comparable restored conditioned. The interior has been restored with a ivory white and burgundy red pleated leather restoration to match original factory upholstery from 1955 to the extent possible. The carpet was replace everywhere except for the trunk that still has the original interior. The steering wheel was restored although there is crackling in the clear lucite Cadillac horn button a a few signs of small cracks in the wheel itself but they are all minor and the wheel looks like a recent restoration was done. The original factory radio was also restored and is fully functioning. An alternate radio was installed in the ashtray and glove box to allow for FM radio reception. Interior chrome was 90% redone to make the interior nearly complete. As a result of the death of the gentleman who did my interior work, I never had a chance to have a boot made for the convertible top. THIS IS A 57 YEAR OLD CAR. Please expect that there will be issues requiring tinkering and a little money here and there. Classics are not modern cars and require love and care to keep them running. Everything on the this car currently works except for the clock. The following items are finicky with this Caddy: 1. The front driver's side electric window can be occasionally sticky on rolling it up due to what I believe are switch issues but I have never been unable to make the window go up. I simply move the switch back and forth and it kicks back in. 2. The convertible top hydraulics often work without issue but it can be finicky when you are lowering the top. Sometimes I let the engine run a few minutes before I lower it down or let it stop halfway down and let the engine run a few minutes before lowering it the rest of the way. 3. The top is also tight from being most down for ten years. I had a friend help locking the top down when I took the pictures for this listing because it was stiff. 4. There is also a minor leak in power steering or transmission fluid (my mechanic felt it was too minor to fuss with when it was last in for service). Fluids were last changed in April 2011. Please be aware of these issues when you bid as they may require attention or service. ALL IN ALL THIS HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL CAR. MY MECHANIC HAS TOLD ME ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHAT WONDERFUL SHAPE IT IS IN AND THAT I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE FOUND ONE IN SUCH GOOD SHAPE. THIS IS AN AS IS SALE AS ARE MOST CLASSIC CAR TRANSACTIONS. I WILL COOPERATE WITH YOUR SHIPPER BUT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE TO DELIVER CAR TO YOUR SHIPPING COMPANY FROM 4/8 TO 4/14.
