Vehicle Detail
1951 Chevy 3100 pickup truck, 1/2 ton, HARD TO FIND 5 window. Original inline 6-cylinder with the original 3 speed manual on the column. Glass all in great condition. Previous owner had started working on truck but had to get rid of it due to an injury at work. He was going to make it a full glass window in the doors instead of the glass and vent window. He purchased a few thousand dollars worth of parts. I have most of his receipts and ones form things which I had started to purchase. Does start and run, but carb could use a cleaning and adjustment I'm sure. I've had it in all gears in the neighborhood, but couldn't quite get the downshifting for some reason without grinding them a little - some kind of trick with double clutching to downshift these old transmissions from 3rd to 2nd (Operator's Manual even describes the downshift procedure as a double clutch). Has a bench seat from a Chevy S-10 pickup I believe. Brakes work. Has the Original gauges. Oil pressure gauge works, speedometer was moving when I drove it - may need a new cable or just cleaned. Changed to a 12-Volt system (I still have the generator) so the other gauges need some additional work (inexpensive - voltage reducers) to get working properly. Bed is currently just plywood. I have the original heater core, blower and control levers. Core needs repaired or replaced. Many new parts including: New wiring kit - headlights, turn signals and brake lights which all work, new alternator. New floor board set (not installed yet) to cover/repair small holes. This is a project truck, but wouldn't take very much at all to at least get it on the road. There is one small fiberglass repair on driver side cab corner which you can see from inside the cab. Other than minor surface rust, there are NO other major rust spots or rot of any kind. One of the previous owners added a hydraulic lift to the bed so the truck can be used as a dump truck (probably on a farm at one time). You can definitely drive the truck with the bed as it sits - it is very sturdy. I would have no problem driving the truck locally once the carb was cleaned and adjusted. Brakes work just fine. Headlights, running lights, brake lights and turn signals all work. I changed the oil and coolant (after replacing radiator and heater hoses). Steering is a little loose as so many of the old trucks were - so I (personally) would rebuild/replace steering gear box before attempting any longer trips. I have side mirrors to add as well. Truck should go home on a trailer. Little noisy driving the truck in the neighborhood, but would definitely quite down once hood & door bumpers, weather stripping around doors, fender welts, etc would be installed. I DO have the Clear Ohio Title. Odometer reads 66,339 miles and Title is marked as original miles. I also have 2 copies of an original Owners Manual, a copy of a Chevrolet Truck Assembly Manual, plus several other catalogs with every part you can imagine to build the truck from the ground up. Hate to see it go, but typical story - kids in college, and just going to take more time and money than what's available.. Please email questions, and I'll do my best to answer. Please ask for additional pics if needed. I reserve the right to end the auction early as I do have it listed locally as well. $500 deposit due within 48 hours after successful bid, remainder due within 7 days.
