Vehicle Detail
This 1950 Tin Woody Chevrolet is built for fun in” old woody surf wagon style”. The car retains many of its stock features including stock front suspension and steering, both the suspension and steering are tight. It’s powered by a rebuilt, snappy 1961 283 cu.in with GM power pack heads backed by a turbo 350 turbo automatic trans. The rear end is out of a 94 S-10 PU with low gears for a quick jump off the line. A new custom made drive shaft connects the two. The front coil springs are cut 2” and the rear has 2 ½” drop blocks to give the wagon the right stance. The body before restoration was in very good shape. It’s covered in House of Color,” Hot Rod Flats”- Yellow urethane to give it that sun beaten appearance. The roof however is a bright white metal flake with a high gloss clear coat. The wood grain on the side as well as the dash is custom airbrushed with a high gloss clear and looks awesome. The car has old school pin striping from bow to stern in 50’s hot rod tradition. The interior has the look, smell and feel of an old wood wagon with every side covered in custom made birch panels. A lot of work went into the also custom made wooden slat head liner that gives it the look of the earlier woodies. The front seat is out of a 40’s DeSoto and the rear seats are taken from a 60’s charter bus customized to fit. The metal floor is solid with small repairs on only the pan areas. The floor is painted with black enamel and covered with rubber mats. An entirely new 12v wiring harness was installed, made by EZ wiring, custom aluminum radiator,Lokar shifter, Moon equipped gauges,Smitty mufflers, and of course the classic Wolf whistle along with many other things to much to mention. The original hood hinges do not have the springs installed, ( I use a hood prop). I never installed windshield wipers because I never drive the car in the rain. The car has the factory holes drilled for the side moldings but have not been replaced. The factory speedometer works, but intermittedly. The rear pass window is cracked and the trans leaks only when it sits for a long period of time. The brake system is rebuilt but stock, the E-brake brackets were removed to make way for the V8.I enjoy the car just the way it is, If your looking for an old car that rides like today’s cars this isn’t it. Although dependable it is a 62 year old car complete with all the rattles and squeaks they’re just hard to hear over the Beach Boys played on the CD/MP3 player hidden in the glove box. This car was built for fun and would look awesome at the beach. Good luck and please feel free to E-mail any questions.
