Vehicle Detail
You have an opportunity to purchase a beautiful 1955 MGTF with the 1500 XPEG engine (#1071). The most desirable of all MGTF's. I purchased the TF last year with the idea that I would repaint the exterior and replace the interior. Unfortunately, other circumstances have prevailed, and I find myself in a position of not being able to fulfill my objectives. I searched for months, trying to find a 1500 TF that was in excellent condition and this is that TF. There have only been a few owners, all of whom have maintained the TF to high standards. The TF still has a California title and its black plates. The plates will stay with the car if the buyer is from California, otherwise they stay with me. The TF is painted blue, as one of the first owners did not like the ivory color paint and decided to change. The paint has patina. Chips and some checking make for a very original looking car. Parked next to a Ferrari....this TF gets the positive comments. Everyone likes the look, as it appears to be original to most individuals. The TF looks to never have been in an accident. All panels are straight with no rust or dents. The wood is in the same condition. Doors open and close without any sag. They snap shut. Best I have ever seen. The interior is in a similar condition as the exterior. The seats are original and have a few tears. The drivers seat has a missing piece about 3"x5". Removed by the previous owners dog who liked the taste of old TF seats. When I purchased the TF, the rear part of the drivers seat was covered with a custom coffee bean burlap bag. I uncovered it for the pictures, but I leave it in place while I use the car. It certainly is a topic of discussion........hey, what's with the burlap bag? All switches and lights work and the interior is very comfortable and works well with the exterior. The steering wheel is a new reproduction and sets off the interior very necely. The TF has no top. It has the bows, but no top. Quite frankly, I never used the car when I would have needed the top up. It also comes with period side curtains. Not great, but more than servicable. I would improve them at the same time I replaced the canvas top. It has a full black tonneau cover in excellent condition. While the TF has originality, there have been numerous improvements to the drivability and the safety of the car. Namely: New tires, resprayed wire wheels, recored radiator, new water pump with all new hoses, new motor mounts, rebuilt temp gauge, new oil lines, new wheel cylinders, new spin on oil filter, fuel pump, conversion from positive ground to negative ground, thermostat, new distributor, rotor , condenser, plugs, cap, new brake shoes, radiator cap, rebuilt speedometer, new generator, valves adjusted and all new fluids. These are the most recent changes, all improving the TF and the overall driveability of the car. The clutch is in excellent condition as is the engine and transmission. Cruise all day at 60-65 MPH. The TF has never left me stranded. There are many TF's that are sold on ebay. Most have been restored or are basket cases. This TF is the one you should own. It looks great, drives well and your restoration can be completed over time, or maybe just leave it as it is. I have priced the TF fairly for the overall condition and the fact that it is a 1500, and it should continue to appreciate over time. Buy it now, drive it for the summer and restore it at your leisure. You will not be disappointed!! The TF is located in southern Connecticut. You will receive a bill of sale as CT is not a title state for cars over 25 years of age. However, I still have the California title and the car is still elegible for reregistration there with the continuation of the black plates. Please........do not bid if you cannot afford to pay. Before you bid, get approval from your banker, accountant, partner and your significant other. Thank you for bidding. I wish all who bid could win.
