Vehicle Detail

Six 6 seater 1998 Honda Odyssey for sale. We've loved this car since 20K miles and it's "only" 170K miles young now.  This is the older body style which we prefer to the newer models because they drive more like a car. Disclaimer: It NEEDS a transmission repair which we've got an estimate of $1700-$3000 for.  The transmission is slipping.  We've still been able to drive it but you'd definitely want to repair it to make it a daily driver.  Sometimes it doesn't engage properly or change up.  It has a manual gear selection of gears 2 and 1 and putting it into 1 always works so it's never a problem getting it going - it's just tricky to keep it engaged. The engine is running well and has been regularly serviced and cared for since we bought it.  First thing in the morning the throttle sticks in the idle position.  All you need to do is push it once before you start the car and it'll drive fine all day.  It's probably just a gummed up throttle body - since the transmission went south I decided not to get it fixed.  Truthfully this car has been the most reliable car we've ever owned.  The transmission was the first thing which actually broke on it apart from the catalytic converter - which apparently is a consumable (a phenomenally expensive consumable I might add). The cat was replaced around a couple of years ago so it should have no problem passing smog for a few years.  This car has always smogged well below the limits.  Right now it cannot pass since the transmission is throwing codes and therefore the check engine light is on.  It is also unlikely to perform well on a smog station dynamometer since it probably won't change gear properly.  I will provide previous smog certs for which I kept documentation and I also have a printout from the DMV web site of the last 6 smog passes since 1999 (which is when we bought it). Electrically, body-wise etc it's in good condition for it's age.  There are no dents but a couple of scrapes on the bumper. This is the EX model so it has the roof bars and the captains chairs in the middle row of seats.  This makes it easier to get into the back seats for the last couple of passengers.  Despite this being a smaller easier to drive model there is more room for all 6 passengers than for example the Mazda 5 (when we looked at that van we found there was either good legroom for the middle row or the back row but not both at the same time).  The 98 Odyssey is way better in this regard. It's got power windows front and back, power mirrors, front and rear wipers with spray front and back, sunroof and California legal tint on all the rear windows.  The drivers seat is power adjustable up and down.  It has central locking; two keys will be provided.  The seats and carpet are San Diego dirt and sand color :-D The back seat folds down into a well and the middle captains chairs come out giving you an almost flat bed inside which a side by side fridge can fit into! With the middle seats in but the back seat folded down you can fit an 8-foot board down the middle … plus 3 passengers.  You can also fit a 10 ft pole (eg irrigation pipe) with all seats in by pushing it into the front footwell… plus 5 passengers. No accidents, air bags never deployed.  Front and passenger airbags.  Four wheel disc brakes with ABS provides awesome stopping ability. Cruise control works. AC runs nice and cold.  There is also AC fed from the ceiling to the back seats which you don't find on most basic to mid-range six-seven seaters. If you want to buy this car the transmission is your problem.  In other words, it's sold as-is.  When running well this is an AWESOME car.  Honestly.  With the failing transmission it simply is not the pleasure to drive it once was; it does need fixing. *** Vehicle sold as-is.  Where is.  Due to the transmission problem buyer agrees that the car is non-operable and the sale is for parts only.  Buyer accepts responsibility for any and all registration requirements if the car is to be operated.  Buyer will be required to accept this in writing when title is transferred.  Buyer will be invited to check all documentation at time of purchase and ensure VIN numbers etc match.  Buyer must pick up from 92122. *** Features include: Front-Wheel Drive Automatic Transmission Alloy Wheels Power Steering Power windows Power locks Central locking Immobilizer (car won't start without genuine key). Sunroof 3-Point Seat Belts on all 6 seats 4-Wheel Disc Brakes Power Brakes with ABS Third Brake Light Child-Proof Door Locks Driver and passenger airbag Adjustable Steering column Cruise control with steering wheel controls Dual Power Mirrors Air conditioning Upgraded stereo with aftermarket speakers Courtesy Lights Map Light 6 cup Holders Dash Clock Coolant Temp. Caveat - we lost the title certificate so I have ordered a duplicate… it should be with us next week (around 2/23).  We do own the title and it is a clear California title - we just need to replace the certificate. I looked for service documentation and pulled together everything I could find.  There's quite a few years of service documentation including a couple of Honda recalls that have already been performed.  I also found some of the smog test results so you can see the previous numbers if you're interested.  I'll hand over all the documentation when I transfer the title. On Feb-21-12 at 12:33:23 PST, seller added the following information: Please feel free to ask questions - I am actively monitoring the listing this week and will respond to questions within a few hours. I also wanted to point out that I have this advertised locally as well and if I get the BIN (Buy It Now) price I will likely end the auction early as allowed by eBay Motors rules. So if you watching on the sidelines and waiting to post a bid - please don't wait to bid so that I can see the interest is there from the eBay community! Thanks. On Feb-22-12 at 16:37:27 PST, seller added the following information: New bidders please note: I have been in touch with the DMV today and despite my best efforts and paying for expidited processing they have taken significantly longer than the promised processing time and I will not have the title until next week (ie between 2/27 and 2/29). I have contacted the current bidders to explain the situation. I *do* have title on the car but will not be able to complete the sale (transfer the vehicle to you) until 2/27-2/29.
