Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a 2003 Dodge Stratus with 159,217 Miles. I purchased this car from a local dealer in 2005 with 75,000 miles on it. I am only selling the car because I have too many cars and do not have room to store this one anymore. This is a NO RESERVE auction, so the car will sell to the highest bidder. The engine runs strong and the transmission shifts smooth. The interior is very clean for a car of this age and miles. The car has brand new headlight lenses and upgraded Silverstar bulbs, so the lights are actually better than new. The exterior is in okay condition and has some defects. There are a lot of small scratches on the car, but they aren't very noticeable until you take a close look. There is a heavy scratch on the rear bumper. The front bumper has two small cracks and millions of little chips; the hood has a number of chips as well. There is some rust on the rocker panels, passenger side doors/rear fender, and the front edge of the hood. There are also two small cracks in the top right of the windshield. They are on the passenger side and are not very noticeable. The car WILL pass New York state inspection with those cracks. The law states that for the car to fail, the crack must be at least 11 inches long and be within the area covered by the windshield wipers. These cracks aren't even near the area the wipers cover and are only about 6 inches long. I have taken pictures of the windshield, rust, and all of the major imperfections. Overall, the exterior is probably average or slightly below for a car of this age and mileage. Mechanically, the engine and transmission are very strong. The V6 has good power and still manages 29mpg while going 75mph. A few months ago (November 2011) I took the car on a three week long 6,000 mile road trip across the country and had ZERO issues. The rear suspension is original and therefore has over 159,000 miles on it. The dealer said it is worn out, but it does not hurt anything by not being replaced. It just makes a little noise over some sharp bumps (like the bumps when you get on and off of bridges). Once the car gets warmed up, the steering gets a little heavy (still easy enough to easily turn with your pinky, but it is noticeably heavier) and makes a squeaking noise. I am not sure what this is, but it has been doing this for the past year and doesn't seem to be hurting anything. Again, it's somewhat annoying, but it still works. The car made all those noises prior to and during the 6,000 mile trip (some of which was at 90mph in Utah) and none of them got worse during the trip. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country and back again. The car comes with a Uhaul Class II hitch that is prewired (Professionally installed by Uhaul less than a year ago). This is a great way to haul bicycles or even a light trailer. I occasionally tow my ATV with it (trailer and ATV combined weigh 900 lbs.) and I hardly notice it behind me. If you have ANY questions or would like any additional pictures, please send me a message. If you are interested, you are also welcome to come see the car in person.
