Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is an exceptional example of a 1996 Passat Tdi wagon. This is your chance at a very rare opportunity to own VW's flagship TDi wagon. It is speculated that only 1000 of these were ever produced. To many people, these are the "holy grail" of VW Tdi's for many reasons- They are the largest vw (or import wagon for that matter) ever made. This particular model also tends to get better fuel economy than any of the other TDi wagons. (45-55 mpg!!) All of the B4 Passats were produced at VW's Wolfsburg factory and are believed to, over all, be a tighter driving, longer lasting Tdi than any other out there- I purchased this Passat Tdi at the end of last year with plans of using it as a commuter car. The truth is that neither my wife or I will be commuting this year as we have decided to start our own business from home. We can already see that this car will not get driven very much, so, the decision was made to let it go-- Our loss is your gain!!! When I found/ purchased this car I was pleasantly surprised at the over all condition and cleanliness. The body is very straight and rust free. This car definitely has not seen the salty roads!! The undercarriage is without corrosion or rust. All of the body panels appear to be original and it appears to have never been in an accident. When I searched for one of these, It seemed as if most are used as a truck and the cargo area as well as the rest of the interior generally showed it. Needless to say, this one has not. The interior is very clean and original down to the cargo cover and headliner. One thing that did really bother me about this car when I purchased it, was the fact that it had been "keyed" down both sides. There was no indention, but, I knew that paint work would have to be done. After purchasing, I took it directly to the body shop, where they advised to paint the car all over as opposed to just the sides. Needless to say, we did just that and the outcome was great- you can see that the car looks great and shines well! Mechanically the car is very sound. This is yet another area where I spent alot of money just to make sure things were "right". I opted to do a major service including the following- -timing belt -tensioner -idler -crankshaft pulley -side engine seals -intermediate o-ring -water pump -thermostat -serpentine belt -power steering belt -rebuilt steering rack&pinion -dash removed and heater box foam replaced -new set of tires, new set of OEM hubcaps As anyone could imagine, the engine cranks and runs great hot or cold. It does not knock, smoke or rattle. I have owned several TDis over the years and this one seems to run stronger and quieter than any of the others. This car really runs and drives nicely. The heat and AC work great as well as everything else on the car with the exception of the cruise control. Its easy to see that this is perhaps the nicest early passat tdi on the market today, so dont miss your chance!! This is a NO RESERVE auction!! bid to own!! As always, if you have any questions, please ask. Although this is a very nice car, with low miles, it is still a 16 year old car. Although it has alot of new parts, there are still parts of this car that are 16 years old. If you are local and would like to come and look at the car, I would like to pursuade you to do so. If youre not, and would like to order an independent inspection, the car is available for that as well- I require a $500 deposit through paypal within 24 hrs of auction end- NO EXCEPTIONS!!! The remainder is to be paid within 7 days and the vehicle is to be picked up within 14 days. GOOD LUCK!! and HAPPY BIDDING!!! On Feb-18-12 at 06:33:10 PST, seller added the following information: Thanks for all of the inquiries. For everyone interested, I do have a clear title on this car in my name- and of course, the VIN on the title matches the vehicle. I understand everyones concern, but, I will say again that this car has/had NO rust. This cars undercarriage is as clean as as any. For a perspective buyer, I took the car to a Certified VW Mechanic yesterday for a pre-purchase inspection. This mechanic is a Naval aircraft mechanic, and has been working on VW's since 1978.. In other words, I trust his opinion. He was over all impressed with the car and thought that the car had been taken care of. His results are as follows- On Feb-18-12 at 13:57:10 PST, seller added the following information: I have had lots of questions regarding payment and shipping, so, I figured I would clarify a bit- I do require the $500 deposit via paypal within 24 hrs. of auction end- NO exceptions. I require this because it covers my auction fees that will be taken out of my Paypal account. If you are the winning bidder, please contact me after the auction is over to discuss the best payment method for you. I always prefer cash, but, that is not always possible. Other ways of payment are cashiers check, bank transfer etc.. If you want to pay with a cashiers check, i must have time to cash the check. Either way, I have to have cash in hand before the car leaves my posession. If you are the winning bidder and are a distance away, shipping is probably the most logical way to get the car to you. If you figure in a plane ticket, 4 days of your time, fuel, food, etc, its not hard to see what makes the most sense. There are very many options for shipping and that is completely up to you. If need be, I can give you information on shippers that I have used in the past with excellent results. If you would like to fly in and drive the car home, the Atlanta airport is the closest. There is a transportation shuttle that will take you from the airport to a location that is about 7 miles from me. I would be more than willing to pick someone up there- Thanks again, Chris
