1958 /1959 BMW R/60.....VIN: 619947................ Matching numbers in all three places..... The title states this unit as 1959... Between 1956 and 1960 there were 3,529 units produced... # 618001 through # 621530........... #619947 comes in as the 1,946th unit produced out of 3,529... So-ooo, Maybe it's production date is earlier than what is stated on the title..........................Anyway... This motorcycle was owned by a family member who was forced to terminate his motorcycle enthusiasm due to the relentless aging process, complicated by increasing health issues..... Since his subsequent passing, we have been, very slowly, placing the contents of his shop back into circulation for the benefit of his widow..... We may not have all of the answers, but we will do what we can to encapsulate our recollections and observations to the best of our ability...... That having been said, here are the downside of things as we see them.....Although the kick starter depresses smoothly and it seems to have plenty of compression, this bike has not been ridden for several years, so it may take a little TLC to get it to fire up....From what I know of these machines, it probably, and I say this hopefully, won't take much.....The right header pipe has a minor dent on top... The right side of the air cleaner shows a tiny depression... The left roundel badge is chipped a bit... The chrome headlight ring is dented and scratched... The right rear shock adjuster is slightly bent... It has, what looks like, the older Bub exhaust pipes and the right one has a smallish hole... It appears that both the frame and the sheet metal have been repainted at some point, but it is not too bad a job, certainly serviceable for the time being... The tires, although seeming new, I'm sure are older, but very unused... The spokes, axels, and a few of the nuts and bolts have a tiny tinge of rust, and overall, there is certainly present a light patina of age and use... Will need a battery... No side stand... No steering lock key... No tool box lock key... No tire pump... No tools... No manual... No shop rag...................................The upside of things as we see them...... The tank is clean and dent free, save for a few superficial scuffs... The sheet metal is all clean, straight, and dent free, but for a few paint chips and light scratches... The aluminum rims are clean and seem straight... spokes very serviceable... The steering dampener seems in good shape, and the horn is present... The headlight bucket appears blemish free, and the lenses are clean and tight... Overall, the rubber bits aren't in bad shape, and again, there seems to be plenty of compression when the kick starter is depressed... The rubber seat block is firm and comfortably stiff, as is the rubber seat stretcher... The pushrod tube rubbers look newer, or extremely well preserved... The light/horn switch is tight and unworn... The handlebars appear to be the wide ones often found on the R 51/3 which give it's overall appearance a very sultry, sort of low slung look... And again, there is present, a light patina of age and use, but in a good way..............................................This sale/auction goes forward AS IS / WHERE IS with no warranties or guarantees either expressed or implied...
