Vehicle Detail
I have owned this Black Cherry (factory color) Jeep since the summer of 2000. It has been in the South since bought new in Texas by a retiring USAF Colonel and is rust free. It was regularly driven until 2001 when it spun a main bearing with about 102,000 miles. It sat for a few years until we installed a professionally rebuilt AMC 401 in place of the original 360. It has been driven sparingly since then accumulating another 10,046 miles to date. Other than the engine the vehicle is all original. As can be seen in the pictures the 22 year old paint is tired, the head-liner needs attention and it has the typical wear and tear, small dents and dings. This would be an easy restoration. It runs and drives just fine - I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere; see my offer to deliver below. Things that don't work: factory radio plays intermittently (cassette is fine); temperature and compass works intermittently, the driver's door lock linkage has come loose (easy fix), the power mirror control switch has fallen into the door (easy fix), there is a small trans fluid leak, engine oil leak and the steering box seal weeps - pretty typical Jeep behavior in my experience - but I attribute to not being driven much. For the first time since I owned it the AC required a recharge this past summer in order to freeze one out (lol); it may need service again this summer. There is also a small exhaust leak and a mild lifter/rocker tick. The oil pressure sending unit is bad - scared me when the pressure gauge was low, but the mechanic used a mechanical gauge and found the oil pressure just fine. Some notable pluses: This model has Dana 44 axles front and rear and these are factory with 3:31 ratio and it still uses the original Chrysler torqueflight 727 transmission although a slightly deeper MOPAR pan was installed; the running gear is original and has seen only normal fluid changes and service. The 401 was built right with all top quality USA parts with a mild cam. It gets 12 miles/gal and has great torque and power. It has edelbrock emission-legal aluminum heads, forged crank, coated hyper-eutectic, .030 over pistons, MSD distributor and ignition and run great on 87 octane fuel. All emission equipment is in place and operating normally - it passes the NC inspection every year. The tires are 31 X 10.5 BFG with 85% tread remaining on the stock aluminum rims. In 2000 all the factory springs were re-arched in a professional spring shop and an additional leaf was added in the rear; it rides as stock albeit about 1.5 inches higher. This Jeep has the factory tow package with the aux. trans oil cooler. The original spare is in place and has never seen the ground. Back in 2000 I bought a bunch of NOS parts from my local Chrysler dealership (I was going to restore but never got around to it); OEM parts that, I believe, are no longer available - I spent about $1500 back then and all are included with the sale. I didn't inventory the box (see picture) but there are new side mirrors, hood ornament, exterior and interior trim components (stainless moldings, arm rests, etc), complete weatherstrip kit, carpet kit, etc, etc. I also have a spare (used) oem, aluminum rim. Also included are all 3 factory (Chrysler) service manuals; Mechanical, Body and the Wiring/Electrical Manual. This is a remarkably clean, rust free 22 year old Jeep. There is no warranty and you should bid accordingly. I have described the condition as clearly as I know how - ask any questions you have prior to bidding. The sale is final. You are free to inspect the vehicle - just ask. The winner can pick the Jeep up locally (Greensboro, NC area), or have it shipped at their expense. I can also personally deliver the Jeep anywhere along the I-85 South corridor (15 miles either side) between Charlotte and Atlanta on Feb. 14th or the I-20 West corridor (15 miles either side) between Atlanta and Jackson, MS on Feb. 15th. I will charge no fee for delivery (I'm going that way in any circumstance) except for the actual cost of fuel which will be due and reimbursable - in cash - upon delivery;receipts provided. Payment: I require payment of the entire winning bid within 4 days of auction end via certified funds or PayPal; that's even if I deliver along the routes listed above. If you pick up locally then cash will be fine. If you pay via PP you must reimburse me the 2.9% fee to cover the costs of that service. I will accept that 2.9% fee via PP, certified funds by mail or in cash upon delivery. I have a copy of the original window sticker - send your email if you would like a pdf scan. The reserve is $3300.00 On Feb-04-12 at 12:12:33 PST, seller added the following information: I have pictures of the engine bay; send you email adress if you would like to see them and I will email them to you.
