Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Up for sale is my 1946 GMC “Rat Rod”. This 100% one of a kind ride has been built from the ground up. There is about 1330 hours in the construction of this custom ride. No junk here. This Rat was built in the way they were back in the day, you found what you could and made it work. This truck started life as a 1946 GMC 2 ½ ton flat deck truck. The cab, hood and head light buckets are the only parts that are original. It has a custom frame made with 4” X 2” X 3/16 rectangular tubing all gusseted and professionally welded. Its frame was kicked up 6” in the front and 12” in the rear. Power plant is a 1977 350 Chevy motor with a turbo 400 automatic transmission backing it up. Has a new starter, alternator, plugs and wires. The 350 with headers that lead to thrush mufflers have a real good rumble to them. Front axle came from a 1960 Chevy Nova that has a 4” drop. The front suspension is a custom designed 4 link adjustable with circle track coil over shocks. The shocks are hydraulic with 7 way dampening and 350 lb/inch adjustable setting. Front bumper is from a 1977 GMC that has been sectioned and welded up a little shorter. The steering is nice and tight with a reversed Corvair steering box. Runs down the road straight and true, no bump steer at all. The box is a 1949 Chevy box that has been sectioned and shortened by 11”. Rear end is a Ford posi with 3:73 gears. The rear suspension is 6 leaf with coil over shocks to dampen the bounce. Its cool stance is attributed to the front tires being 185/65R/14 and the rear tires that are 31/11.50/15. It doesn’t have a problem turning the rear tires thanks to the line lock installed on the front brake lines. The master power cylinder, slave cylinders, brake lines, hoses and front pads are new, brake drums were all turned. Emergency brakes work. Rear fenders are steel panels from a boiler that were welded together. Front fenders are new for a boat trailer. The 12 gallon Columbia Brewery beer keg bolted to the frame is the fuel tank. This Rat has a carpentry/woodworkers theme to it. The truck was used by a mill work company and still has the original lettering on both doors. An old saw blade rides on top of the air cleaner, a band saw blade was sectioned and formed as the radiator shroud; it also has a hammer shifter and assorted old wood cutting tools in the box. The visor is from a 1950’s Buick. The interior is finished with all the comforts one would expect in a custom rod, including a rebuilt original heater. All new custom stitched seating that is dark green and black, also a new headliner. The doors and dash are all painted with green pin striping. All the latches and hardware work as they should. The floor is all enclosed, there is no road going by as you drive. The gauges include an LCD speed and mileage gauge, coolant temperature, oil pressure, amps, and air pressure. It has recoil as well as push button start. There is an onboard air compressor that is belt driven from the motor to fill the under carriage air tank for the 24” twin trumpet air horns, good and low and deep. All the glass is new tinted green laminated, front, sides and rear. DOT approved and stamped. The Rat has headlights, high and low beam, turn signals, brake lights and park lights. Paint provided by Mother Nature. This ride is currently titled, reggied, licensed, tagged, in British Columbia as a 1946 GMC ½ ton Pick up. This custom ride is a multi award winner of over a dozen trophies including Best Rat Rod, Favorite Project, Best in Class, Best Orphan, Most Unique and best of all Peoples Choice.
