Vehicle Detail

This 1950 Packard CUSTOM 8 top of the line sedan is a true unrestored survivor. 356 cu.in straight 8 engine.160 hp.automatic transmission, There were 870 Custom 8's produced in 1949/50 and this one is #850. Car is registered with the National Packard club as well as the North Atlantic Packards. This is a 23'rd series Packard and was the top of the line Packard in 1950. I have spent the last 2 years doing a mechanical restoration of this low mileage vehicle. The vehicle has spent the majority of it's life in New England, that I can tell. The previous owner had the Ultramatic transmission rebuilt. I have gone through all the engine components, Rebuilt generator, starter, carburator,.Replaced as new Radiator core, master cylinder, thermostat, hoses, belt,Heavy duty custom made batt cables, fuel line, brake lines, brake hoses, all tires were new 2 years ago,5 new tubes, new tranny cooler,Head was just removed, planned, valves cleaned and lapped into seats,New head gasket, side pan gasket, All manifold gaskets replaced.New exhaust from the front pipe back Stainless steel muffler., New coil over rear shocks, Complete tune up, cap rotor, points, cond, plugs, wires,I would guess I have spent over 3 or 4 thousand dollars in the past 2 years to bring this Packard up to a dependable roadworthy vehicle..Starts right up,choke works great, can be driven at highway speeds with no problem. The car comes with spare parts like hoses, belts,ORIGINAL owners manual,Packard dealer service manual, Ultramatic service manual, spare ignition parts spare tube, spare tire. No Jack however . NOW for the list of things the car needs. Rear main seal weeps a bit of oil when car is shut off, rear end needs a pinion seal as well,Speedometer cable broke last month speedo worked up until then, cold weather must have affected it,Radio not working,The brakes; once in a while they tend to pull to one side ,my mechanic noticed that the 2 front wheel cylinders are not the same size and should be replaced with matching cylinders as well as a set of relined shoes.Transmission seems to work well but should be serviced, fluid change and linkage adjustment. Linkage seems a little tempermental but has not stopped me from driving the car over 6 thousand miles in the last 2 yrs. It should be adjusted by someone who knows Ultramatics. I will include any and all spare parts I find as I have a few. All in all a great car that can be driven as is ,Interior has some moth damage, Paint has fine scratches and a few paint blisters but overall is rot and rust free. Under the car is rock solid, great frame, few small dents in the rocker panels but hardly noticeable unless you are under the car. Floors are great, trunk also. All lights work, horn, heater, wipers,. The front tires will also need to be replaced, I guess 6 or 7 thousand miles is all you get out of a set of Universal bias ply tires. Back tires are still good. REAR bumper will need to be replated.Plating is mostly gone. Please feel free to call me with any questions before bidding as I have described the car to the best of my knowledge. Car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end auction early if it should sell locally. My Phone # is 508 796 3395 Jeff Phone works best for me so feel free to call with questions or for more pictures. I have no long term storage for vehicle and arangments must be made asap or storage charges will have to be paid by buyer.before vehicle is released. DO NOT BID on this car if you have not asked any question about it. Car is not perfect and has beed described as is as seen. NO WARRANTE implied .or given. All sales final.
