Vehicle Detail
1969 Ford Country Sedan Wagon 2 owners from new All original paint, interior Factory 429, C6, Detroit Locker Here up for bids on eBay is this well preserved 1969 Ford Country Sedan station wagon. This has been a Pacific Northwest car from new and has always been garaged. It has had just 2 owners, the 2nd owner bought the car in 1974 and it's still on the same title from that year. Old cars from this part of the US have a much higher survival rate than most, due to our generally mild climate and mostly cloudy skies. These conditions go a long way in ensuring that weatherstripping remains pliable, dashboards don't crack, and paint doesn't get sun baked. In addition, the roads here are not salted in the winter, eliminating the curse of rust. This wagon is a textbook example of a Pacific Northwest car, it has 107K miles, original paint, an all original interior, and excellent chrome and trim. Mechanically, the car is fantastic. The 2nd owner was a pilot and was meticulous about maintenance, included are service receipts going back to 1974. This wagon is well equipped, sporting the optional 429 motor, beefy C6 transmission, Detroit Locker rear end, factory AC and factory disc brakes up front. I just completed a 200 mile freeway jaunt in the car and it didn't miss a beat. To say that the car has long legs on the freeway is an understatement, this is definitely a highway cruiser that has power to spare. Offered at No Reserve, here's a chance to own a great example of a 60's icon, the classic American Station Wagon. Having original paint eliminates a lot of guesswork about a car's past, what you see it what you get. This car presents extremely well, you can tell it's been garaged and cared for. The paint is still glossy with good depth and shine. Ford called this color "New Lime" and it's a complex color, oftentimes shifting from yellow to green to ivory depending on the lighting conditions. Being all original, expect to see a good number of small chips here and there, along with some parking lot dings, but overall the car makes a pretty strong impression. The body panels on this big barge are very straight, panel gaps are all good, and there are no rust issues anywhere on this car, top or bottom. This wagon seems to draw people in to talk about it, and most of them have a story about "the one they had growing up" (even if it wasn't a Ford!). It gets its fair share of thumbs up on the road and a few double takes from the guys driving big Lexus SUV's when they realize they could have been 3X as cool for 1/10 of the price. Both bumpers are in great shape with no pitting, in fact all of the chrome on this car is really excellent for its age. All signal lenses are in terrific condition with no cracks. Front grill is in very nice shape. The 3rd and 4th photo below show that there are some paint adhesion issues on both rear quarters, not something you'd notice right away but worth mentioning here. I've looked at the inside of the body panels here on both sides and have seen factory sheet metal with no evidence of rust or damage repair. Not exactly sure what's happened here but wanted to disclose this subtle flaw. The roof rack is in great shape, the windshield has one small rock chip way down low and out out of sight, the remainder of the glass is excellent with no heavy scratches or hard water spotting. All of the anodized trim on the car is in terrific shape. The interior is like stepping back in time, it's just very well preserved. The seats are in great shape with no rips, tears or scuffs, they have aged remarkably well. The carpet has taken on the familiar brown hue that is common to all black carpet Fords from this era, aside from the color shift it's still in nice shape. For me, this comes across almost as a badge of honor, as if it's saying "I'm 43 years old and have so far avoided spilled coffee, muddy dogs or barfing kids. How 'bout you?" Factory seatbelts for 6 passengers in this wagon, with room to spare. The car hasn't been smoked in, it has a good smell, not mildewy or mothbally, it smells like nostalgia. Most everything here works correctly, with the exception of the clock and radio. Otherwise, no glitches - lights, signals, horn, wipers, heater, fan, interior lights, dash lights - all working. This is a factory AC car, but I can't vouch for the condition of the system, my guess is that it will need to be gone through. All windows wind smoothly, all door locks work. The dash is entirely free of cracks, usually there's one or two around the speaker grill even on the nice ones, this has none at all. Headliner is intact, door panels all look good and the weatherstripping on this wagon is impressive, it looks like new. The doors and jambs are all very clean. The doors close with a beautifully simple 'click'. If you've ever tried to hang a door you'll appreciate these. With the back seat folded flat, this wagon creates a huge cargo area. This wagon has the "magic tailgate", which can open vertically or horizontally. The window motor has been replaced on the back door, it operates perfectly. The gutter underneath the door is as clean as can be, no rust issues here. The complex hinge mechanism on the left looks like new. The big 429 fires to life easily and runs out great. I probably don't need to tell you that it offers gobs of power to move this wagon down the road. One-finger power steering makes piloting this barge around town easy. The car floats down the road with a good solid feel, devoid of squeaks, creaks or rattles. The transmission shifts well and the car has good braking power, thanks to discs up front and giant 15" drums out back. Power comes through a massive driveshaft to a Detroit Locker rear, new springs in the back keep everything level. The car comes with a large folder of receipts for work done (mostly with the same mechanic) since 1974, as well as the original owners manual. The undercarriage shows all original floor pans with no rust problems or areas of repair, the muffler is the FoMoCo original with a date code of 3-69! I take an active interest in wagons from this era, this is the first really good one I've come across in 10 months of regular searching. Click here for a slideshow of all of the enlarged images.
