Vehicle Detail
I bought this car from a mechanic who was a great guy to deal with. As cool as it is, and it is very cool, I do not have the time to tinker with the car. I am going to include the description from the person who sold it to me, but I would like to add some things. First it starts up great. Second I replaced the solenoid, but the overdrive needs some attention. I am including a vanity dash and cover plate to convert the present one to the upgrade. Door panels with carpeted bottoms are included. Two floor pans, two sets of keys, some windows, I think that is it. Any questions please feel free to call Jay at 732-565-2020. Here is the last sellers description: Offering my 1964 Studebaker Wagonaire. If you are looking at this listing you probably already know that wagons are the hottest segment in hot rodding. Everybody wants one! This is a really special machine. Not many were ever produced and this is one of the last Studebakers built in the USA. Studebaker ceased South Bend production in 1964. Designer Brooks Stevens came up with this concept for the sliding rear roof in Studebaker's final days. Studebaker was running out of money and never really had the cash to promote it they should have. They advertised it as three cars in one. A wagon, a convertible and a truck. I've attac a really cool commercial from YouTube that shows it in action. As you can see, the rear roof slides forw into the front body. You can open the roof and let the kids just stand up in the back! Fun. I rescued this wagon last year and have spent a ton of money and time getting it in road worthy condition the last year I've gone through the brake system, the fuel system, the charging system and the electrical system. I replaced the alternator and the U-joints. I fixed all the gauges so that they all work includin the gas gauge! The wipers and the heater both work. I just had the starter rebuilt and installed an NOS w pump last week. Brand new 15" wheels and newish tires with new Port O walls. She is quiet, cool and relia She goes down the road smoothly. Shifts nice and brakes nice. It also has new carpet with sound deadener. only has 45,000 miles so she's still nice and tight. I have taken it two a couple big hot rod shows and I so many people taking pictures of it, I felt like Kim Kardashian. You don't see these everyday. They are quite rare, but surprisingly easy to work on and find parts for. The largest source of Studebaker parts i right here in Indiana, just 15 miles from Indy (Studebaker Intl). Hemmings Classic Car magazine just had an article in their Sept. issue that was titled "Worlds Smartest Wagon". It was a very interesting read if you haven't seen it, I recommend picking up a copy. In July, Hagerty insurance put the 63-65 Wagonaire on the "Endangered Species" list with less than 15 insured worl wide with them. I learned that there are some Wagonaire clubs and there could be 100 or more surviving. Whatever it is, it is a very small number in comparison to the more common wagons. This is a cool collectable that you'll never lose money on. Fix it up or enjoy it as she is! I've done my work and now i time to move on to the next project. Please look the pictures over carefully and ask any questions that y have before you start bidding. The paint is faded and dry. It is flat with good coverage. I'm assuming that the paint is at least 30 yea old and it will shine if you wanted to buff it up. It's a good looking "ten footer". I was going to paint some vintage style "distressed" lettering on the doors and leave it alone. The front fenders, grill, roof hood are really nice. As you can see there is some rust on the tailgate from a mouse nest that was there held moisture. I stripped the whole interior out to put in the new carpet and sound deadener. The outer rockers have been replaced at the same time and are solid. The floorboards, the tire well and the frame a all in great shape and solid! No holes or soft spots. The front floorboard corners on both sides have sma holes approx. 2" x 2". You could glass them over or do nothing. I will include a pair of brand new stampe steel floorboards from Classic Industries if you get bored this winter. The cardboard headliner was reall dirty, so I removed it to use as a pattern for a new one but I never got around to cutting a new one. You get the old one. She is really nice under the hood and looks just like a 45,000 mile car should. Absolute no rust (even the battery tray is nice and clean). I also have a few spares that go with the car includin complete deluxe dash with radio and vanity, some window glass, some door panels and extra tailgate crank a few odd and ends. NO oil leaks or any other fluids. This auction shows my 60's vintage go kart and my old surf board but they don't go with the car. I droppe the price from $8500 to $6900 so you can buy yourself another board and a small block Chevy engine to tri it out. Some of the Canadian cars actually came with small blocks, so it is a bolt in deal to convert it SBC. I can lower the price another $500 if you just want the stock wheels with the original dog dish hubc Bolt pattern is small Ford or Mopar. I'll switch over the tires for you at no charge. Just call me and I adjust the Buy It Now price. I've revised my price from low to incredibly low as I realize now that nothi on Ebay sells for what it's worth, so if you like it - just buy it, it's only money - you can get more! B when will you ever get another chance to get one of these? The last time I ran the car I had 2600 page viewers plus over 100 watchers and many good offers very close to my current Buy it Now price. If I don't find a winner this time around, I'll probably sink some more time and money in it and you'll next spring your favorite Hot Rod magazine. Thanks for looking and thanks for bidding. You can call me at 317-796-819 you have any questions. Mike One last thing. This car does have overdrive but I don't know how to engage it. doesn't seem to make a difference. I've been driving it around town, so I never needed it, but it is all doesn't seem to make a difference. I've been driving it around town, so I never needed it, but it is all there. Probably gummed up from sitting so long, but I have not taken the time to fix it for you. Oh one last thing. THE CAR COMES WITH THE ORIGINAL WHEELS THAT WERE PAINTED AND SANDBLASTED. THE TIRES HAVE VERY FEW MILES. The sport wheels are NOT included. Thank You for looking, Jay On Dec-31-11 at 13:50:00 PST, seller added the following information:There is an extra dash with a full set of gauges, knobs, and switches. Also an extra key and ignition switch. Oh one last thing, there is a decent size stone chip in the windshield kind of behind the mirror. On Jan-01-12 at 06:43:49 PST, seller added the following information: 5. 1971-77 Toyota Celica: In 1971 – a little late to the On Jan-02-12 at 06:12:26 PST, seller added the following information: I tried to cut and paste above this article from Hagerty Insurance entitled " Hagerty Lists Top 'Threatened, Endangered and Extinct' Cars," All I ended up with was adding something about Toyotas. Basically Hagerty put this Studebaker Wagonair on the top 10 endangered species list in 2009. It was only made for 3 years, and at the time they insured less then 25 of them. I will try and post the link for those who are interested. It is a fun read. Happy New Year, Jay http://www.hagerty.com/Hagerty-Online/News/Features/All-articles/2009/12/04/Hagerty-lists-top-threatened-endangered-and-extinct-carsOn Jan-03-12 at 08:26:33 PST, seller added the following information:I added a screen shot showing with 6 days left there were 2367 views and 160 watchers. I decided that with that amount of interest, it would only be fair to let the auction run the course. I have been asked to accept offers or to end the auction early, but I feel that would not be fair to all those interested. So this is a no reserve auction that is going to go to the end. Thank you to all those interested, and Happy New Year.On Jan-08-12 at 06:18:02 PST, seller added the following information: I forgot to include a picture of a radio that is in much better shape then the picture shows. It just needs a little cleaning up. Thank You for looking, Jay
