Vehicle Detail

Up for auction today we have my "Very Cool" 1971 VW Roadster. I purchased this car about 2 years ago as a sedan, it was a very nice car when i puchased it and I only had for a brief month before we decided to convert it to a roadster. I will go into detail below, when I refer to "new", that was in the Winter of 2010 when we did the car, I have enjoyed this car for two summers, but now have other projects to deal with, so something has to go. The car runs, drives, idles fantastic, It is such a super fun car to drive and you will get thumbs up at every light! The color is 2010 Camaro Inferno Orange Metallic, it glistens when teh sun hits, just like a new car. My father and I did all the work ourslelves, my father had his own body shop for over 35 years, and we have been building hot rods together since 1995 finishing 8 different cars, some being quite the award winners.: Body: Started as a very Nice 1791 beetle Sedan, We removed all glass, and cut the roof and tops of doors off. The windshield pillars were capped off and we utlilized a earlier model VW convertible windshield, it was flatter glass and less curves. The front hood is a high quality one piece fiberglas smooth hood, there is no moldings or emblems. The front and rear bumpers were removed. The headlights are new tribar headlamps with turn signals built in behind the lense for a smooth look. The front fenders were NOS VW fenders, teh factory turn signals and bumper holes were filled in and smoothed out. The car still has functioning windshield wipers. The outer door handles were removed. The tops of the doors were capped off and smoothed in.There is a new chrome custom mirror on drivers door. The car has brand new 4" wider than stock fiberglass rear fenders and matching running boards. The rear tailights are m chrome mirror lense LED teardrop lights, there are seperate turn signal and brake lights, the light shines through the chrome finish, they are just cool! The rear deck lid is stock VW, and emblems were removed. The front hood has a new jeep CJ style hood latch installed. it has a 6 point roll bar with door saver bars installed so you dont need to step high to get in. All Bars have padding installed to protect the bars...and your passengers heads. Suspension: New Complete front suspension from Serrano's which is fully adjustable to heigth with a turn of two nuts, I have it low because I feel it looks much cooler. New rear shocks. New Porsche style wheels on front w/ brand new tires which were painted gunstock to match the rear wheels. New Keystone style rear wheels and New tires, the rear wheels were converted to 5 lug chevy 4 3/4 pattern.I will also include the two remaining Porsche style wheels if I can find them. Drivertrain: Motor is stock. New clutch installed. New Solex carburetor, not a rebuild. New Updgraded one wire distributor, cap and rotor. New plugs, wires, and fuel filter. New fuel Pump. The car idles perfect, not a floppy mess like alot of VW's out there. Interior: Brand new seat covers, front and rear. The front seat is 6 way power, I mounted it to a Jeep Cherokee power seat frame. The rear seat does still flip down. New dash pad cover. New CD player with speaker mounted behind speedometer. New Empi close ratio shifter with lock out. Possibly ONE OF THE COOLEST Shifter knobs ever, its a red baron head that was very expensive that we converted to a shifter knob. The floors were Rhino lined to protect from that "quicky shower". Paint: All body work and paint were done by us, the car was spayed 2010 Inferno Orange Metallic, I had a new Camaro that color and fell in love with it, when it hits the sun the metallic just glistens! This is no junker with rotting out floor plans, On of the pictures will show the car right before I cut the roof off, this was a super nice car when before I started, but I wanted something different, and this car fills what I wanted. I will also include a You Tube video, it seems to show the color better than the pictures, sometimes the car appears "red" in pictures, but its an awesome orange. I've driven this car and have never had any issues, it will make an excellent summer cruiser. I will include a nice cover for it to protect it, I always kept it along with me. Here is the 2 minute walk around I did today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6oo-cjM4N0 This is being sold as is with no warranty, a $500 non refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of auction close. Please ask any questions before bidding. I can be reached at 570-695-3201 from 5pm-9pm weekdays, and my cell is 570-527-1261, please no calls after 9pm EST. Happy Bidding and Good Luck! On Dec-14-11 at 07:06:35 PST, seller added the following information: I've had a few questions about what we did before and after cutting off the roof for added support. Before we cut it , we added a few side to side braces to help avoid any distortion or movement. Once the roof was cut off, we added a roll bar behind the seat originally designed for a Monza, and cut it to fit, we welded it behind the front seat locations to the floor and also hitting the structure directly in front of the rear seat, that took care of the side to side. We then added door saver bars, we welded them to the main hoop bar and then welded them into the floorpans in front of the front seats, the door saver bars are much nicer because they have a lowering curve so you dont need to hardly step over them when getting in,but still provide the same strength as a straight bar. We then added bars off the main hoop on an angle into the rear body behind the rear seat. It made it super strong. Also I had a question about the front seats, Yes I switched the front drivers seat and passenger seat, I did that purposly to put the backrest releases on the inside, it just gave a smoother look to the seats. Also thanks to the few people sending a message to just give a compliment or two on the car, it's been a fun ride!
