Vehicle Detail
1971 Volvo 142E 66,640 original miles Bone stock and unmodified Best year for the 140 Series Here up for bids on eBay is this Volvo 142E in excellent condition. In 1971 Volvo introduced the high performance B20E motor for this model, along with adding an upscale leather interior, making this 142E the proverbial 'sweet spot' among the 140 series automobiles. This particular car belonged to one owner for more than 38 years and has full ownership history from new. With its low miles, the car is very well preserved and represents a terrific example of Volvo's venerable 140 models, in the desirable 2 door configuration. Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available at the bottom of the page. Overall the car presents very well, the repaint shows good quality and application. That said, there are some areas of subtle color variation in places, not something you'd notice right away but worth mentioning here. The body on this Volvo is arrow straight, showing no areas of filler or accident repair. Sighting down the sides of the car show clean reflections with no ripples. Rust is not an issue on this car, it's completely solid from front to back, top to bottom. I've looked over every inch of this car and have not found any rust issues, none. The car has great panel fit throughout, gaps are uniform and the doors shut precisely. Both bumpers are clean and undamaged. All of the anodized trim pieces are in great shape, the few chromed pieces on the car are pit free and look super. All of the car's weatherstripping is original and still very nice, a testament to its low miles. All of the tinted glass in the car are the original Volvo branded pieces, even the windshield, all of them in great shape. The car rides on a set of quality Michelin XAS radials, providing a very period correct look for this Volvo. Headlights are Bosch H4's, foglights are by Hella and are new. The car's interior reflects the classic 70's Volvo feel, and for the most part has aged very well. As typical with these leather interiors, the driver's seat shows some wear, otherwise the seating is very well preserved. The carpet in this car is fantastic, with no pilling or fading, it looks great. The dash has taken on a few splits in one area, which is now covered with the custom fit mat you see pictured. All of the gauges, indicators, and controls in this interior function just the way they were intended to, there are no glitches to sort through on this car. Lights, signals, wipers, horn, fan, etc - all working. Even the original Blaupunkt AM-FM radio works great. The glovebox carries the original owner's manual and warranty booklet. Part of the intrique of low-mile original cars comes from looking in the nooks and crannies. The first picture below shows a view up underneath the dash on the driver's side, showing the original body sealant and sound deadening material, just as the workers in Gothenburg left it 40 years ago. The back seats are in good shape, there are seatbelts for 3 back here and they all look pretty much unused. The tops of the back seats are in great shape, not sun baked like most. Both door panels are crisp and clean with no blemishes. Both windows wind easily, all locks on this car are functional. The trunk carries over the same unmodified feel as the rest of the car. Not shown, but included is the original jacking equipment, still in its protective slipcover. Looking underneath the parcel shelf you'll see that this car has never had condensation issues, the original foam underlayment still looks like new. The B20E motor fires to life easily and runs out great. The car operates just like you'd expect a 66K mile original to perform. It runs down the road with a good solid feel, has plenty of power, brakes well, runs cool, and is not a leaker. The car shifts well and the overdrive makes freeway travel enjoyable. 1100 miles ago the car had a complete fuel system renewal, from the gas tank filter to the injector seals. The D-Jet injection system in this car is performing well. The undercarriage shows excellent integrity with no rust issues or damage history. Rocker pinch welds are all present, drain channels are all clear, front and rear valances are straight, this is how you want to find them. Click here for a slideshow of all of the enlarged images.
