Vehicle Detail
A complete restoration by a former Honda mechanic, service manager, factory rep, and road-racer from the 60s and 70s. It’s done right by someone who worked in the motorcycle industry when these bikes were new. The odometer reads 2340 miles, but I cannot verify it as original. The engine number is CL77E-10381__. The last two digits are illegible. The bike was re-titled in Michigan recently as a 1963, having originated in Wisconsin. It may actually be a later year. Frame, swing arm, chain guard, headlight shell, fork ears, shock covers, skid plate, tool box, center stand, and footpegs are red powdercoated. Tank, fork sliders, engine side covers, air cleaner covers, front and rear fenders painted Honda Cloud Silver – absolutely correct color and incredibly durable European paint applied by Janousek Classic Restorations. Very good tank was professionally lined. All metal parts including every original fastener cleaned, polished, re-plated, re-chromed, or re-painted as appropriate. Look closely at the pictures! Engine fully rebuilt. All of the castings are as new - no missing fins or cracks. Cases, barrel and head bead-blasted. Covers polished. New pistons, rings, guides, valves. Transmission rebuilt as needed – new shift forks, bronze k/s bushes, etc. Carbs carefully rebuilt and re-jetted for the straight pipes and baffles. All new cables and levers. New reproduction chain guard. New chain and sprockets. One tooth higher c/s sprocket. Wheels disassembled. Hubs and backing plates polished. New spokes. Original correct rims plated by Browns Plating - $600! New Trials Universal tires and tubes in the correct sizes – 3.00 x 19 front and 3.50 x 19 rear. Front forks rebuilt with NOS tubes. New battery. Rebuilt wiring harness. All electrical components work. All new bulbs. Early style straight-pipe exhaust with original NOS factory baffles. Not the later style with the welded-on muffler can. Known problems: The new chrome on the headers is bubbling. You can get them re-chromed or I can make arrangements to do the work. I used an early-style rear brake lever assembly with an integral cable bracket. As a result there is an unused later-style cable bracket on the frame. This doesn’t cause any problem, but it is redundant. Could be corrected by using a later-style brake lever. The bike is not cheap. I will not reveal the reserve price - that defeats the purpose. Please feel free to ask any questions before the end of the auction. I will respond with a phone number if you’d like to talk about the bike. A $500 deposit is required within 48 hours of the end of auction. I’d prefer PayPal for this. Full payment (not PayPal) within two weeks. Don’t bid unless you want and can afford the bike. Winning the auction constitutes a legally binding contract to purchase the motorcycle and meet the conditions I have set. If you default on the sale, you are obligated to pay the Ebay successful listing fees and I will keep the deposit. I’ll be on vacation after December 20, so arrangements to pick up the bike will have to work around this. I will deliver the bike to Forward Air at the Detroit Metro Airport or anywhere within 40 miles of Chelsea, Michigan (near Ann Arbor) at no charge. I think that the bike will fit into Forward Air’s middle size motorcycle container. I’ll also cooperate with any trucking company you choose to pick up the bike. You pay all shipping costs and make all arrangements. I may consider delivery beyond the 40 mile range for 75 cents/mile each way. But inquire before the end of the auction if you want me to do this. This bike is over 45 years old, needless to say there is no warranty. I have a clear Michigan title for the bike. You will not be disappointed. This is a stunning Scrambler. Ready for a museum or shows. Or ride it with pride. On Nov-30-11 at 05:58:01 PST, seller added the following information: If you have a no or low feedback rating (less than five transactions) or more than one negative feedback in the last year, contact me before bidding. If you have withdrawn any bids in the last year, please contact me before bidding. If you don't, I reserve the right to cancel your bid. On Dec-01-11 at 16:29:32 PST, seller added the following information: A number of viewers have noted that the bike is probably a 1966 or 1967. As I related in the description, there was confusion about the year when the Wisconsin title was transferred to Michigan. If the year on the title is a problem for a buyer, I can easily have it corrected on the Michigan title. There is no sure way to determine the "model year" of Hondas made in the Sixties. They were frequently titled and registered according to the year in which they were sold. And yes, as I stated, the pipes are those that came on the earlier CL72s. They look and sound better.
