Vehicle Detail

Just in time for the holidays! Imagine this car under your Christmas tree. (You better have a really big tree.) :-) If you are an Avanti admirer like me, and always wanted to own an original, unrestored, unmolested Avanti, read on... Take a look at the pictures below. They pretty much speak for themselves, but I’ll try to fill-in what the pictures don’t cover. I am a vintage car collector/hobbyist. I buy and enjoy the ‘dream cars’ of my youth (I just turned 60.) So far I’ve owned several and none of them have disappointed me. Usually I keep two collector cars in my garage, and when I want to move on to my next car, I sell one of them. This time it was between my ’63 T-Bird and the '64 Avanti. The T-Bird won by one vote – cast by my youngest daughter. J I purchased the car two and a half years ago from a doctor in Southampton, Long Island, sight unseen, only viewing some pictures and reading the description. After picking it up, I drove it directly to my home in Feasterville, PA, about 175 miles from Southampton, without incident. The car drives straight and runs like a champ. Handles great on the highway! Included in the sale are the 5 ORIGINAL Sears Allstate 4 ply tires (not a common option) mounted on the original rims in great condition (not on the car.) 3 still have air in them. The 4th just needs a new valve stem. The 5th, the original spare, was never used and looks like it was never taken out of the trunk. Still has the blue coating on the whitewall. See pictures for more details. This car is just about as new as you can get for a 48 year old, unrestored car. Under the hood, inside, outside and underneath, it’s all in incredibly good, original condition. Pretty amazing as there were only 809 total 1964 Avantis ever built. (Try finding another one for sale in this condition and color combination.) You can still see the factory undercoating on some of the areas! Inside there is a slight uphosltery separation on the lower left seam of the driver’s seat where the upper and lower seat parts meet (shown in pictures.) Besides that, the interior is near mint, almost like new! Perfect original headliner, dash, doors, glass, and other interior parts and surfaces. Outside, there are a few minor chips and scuffs in the paint, but I didn’t have them touched up as to keep the paint 100% original. No cracks. No rust-through or rot anywhere. It's a real head-turner! I get thumbs-up all the time and people are constantly asking "What kind of car is that?" and "Is it new?" The interior rear-view mirror clamp has been replaced (common from what I hear.) The passenger side outside rear view mirror was installed by the doctor before I purchased the car, but it matches perfectly. Radial tires in excellent condition. Sealed, period look battery was purchased less than a year ago. Starts right up and drives great. Automatic transmission shifts perfectly. Fan clutch replaced and carburetor rebuilt in 2007. One thing to note: it doesn’t have power steering, so get ready to work out those biceps when standing still! J Original build sheet, shop manuals, and some extra historical documentation included, including letters and a picture from the Southampton Museum where it was on display for a Raymond Loewy (designer) exhibition in 2007 (second to last picture.) So, there you have it… a fantastic, totally original, unrestored, unmolested car for a very modest price. My reserve is less than what I paid. (Thanks, economy.) :-) Here’s an Avanti commercial from 1964 (even has the same color combo!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UQCwJJA17k&feature=related Please ask questions if you have any. 60 pictures total available, but ebay only lets me post 24. Write if you want to see the rest. The car is in Feasterville, PA (Bucks County) and can be inspected by appointment only by anyone you choose, preferably December 10-11 or 17-18. Contact me to schedule what day and time (other dates may be available, but very limited.) Serious buyers only - no 'lookers', please. This is a great car and I want you to be as happy with the purchase as I’ve been. It is and has always been stored covered in an enclosed garage. Everything I have stated is to the best of my knowledge. But, it is a used, 48 year old car, so here’s the small print (shown enlarged.): The car is sold as-is. I am not a mechanic nor a dealer. I would drive this car anywhere, anytime, but I cannot offer a warranty, nor is one implied. Buyer must make deposit of $2,000 within 48 hours (PayPal preferred), and balance within 7 days of purchase (cash or certified/bank check.) Current, valid PA title will be signed over to new owner after payment has cleared. No deliveries. There are many companies who can transport it for you if you decide not to drive/transport it yourself. As I am not the responsible party for loading, unloading, or driving the shipping truck, I cannot be held liable for any claims arising from vehicle shipping, delays, or damage incurred while in transit. All claims are between the buyer and the shipping company. Buyer is responsible for all state, county, city taxes and fees, as well as title/registration fees in the state that the vehicle will be registered. Happy bidding! Bob
