Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1959 Parilla Sport Special 175cc. According to the research I have done this particular model was never imported into the US – this bike was sold on Ebay Italy around 2004 and came here at that time. The bike was passed around between a few collectors before I bought it. I bought this bike to use in the California Giro in Oct and the bike completed the over 300 mile ride successfully this past Oct. Overall the bike is in really nice shape – seems to have been restored in Italy before it was shipped over here. There are a few fuel stains on the gas tank (right side) and a few chips (cable rub mark on front fender) on the rest of the bike but other than that it is quite nice. When I got the bike one of the fuel taps was leaking so I replaced both of them at that time. After riding it around a bit the teeth on the fiber lower cam chain gear sheared at this time the bike was fitted with a steel lower cam chain gear and oil pump gear. Replacing the fiber gears with steel ones is a common way to remidy this problem with these bikes. This bike does have a clear title. This bike does have a non numbered engine in it – from my research this may indicate that the engine was replaced at some point. After two day of riding the only issues I had were a slipping clutch in 4th gear at higher rpms (if you are looking at this bike you are probably familiar with the Ducati clutch conversions for these bikes) and the spring on the kick starter came off of its stop and needs to be refitted. Since the ride I have tightened the spring tension on the clutch on it does not seem to currently slip however it may need attention in the future. I have also refitted the kicker spring and installed a NOS folding kicker from a scrambler. Overall it is a great rider that generally starts in a few kicks and runs nicely. A nice high cam Parilla that can be ridden or cleand up and shown. I am sure many of you who are into vintage bikes are familiar with the reaseon I am selling this bike -- to fund other projects. If you are serious about this bike and would like more details feel free to call me 541-488-8400. I am happy to talk with you and share what I know about this bike, but please do not waste my time.
