Vehicle Detail

!969 Formula S 340 Barracuda fastback, all original. Car has been stored under cover for over 20 years, since last driven. Formula S package includes heavy-duty suspension, front sway bar, Rallye gauge cluster and floor shifter for the 727 Torqueflite transmission. This car is the equivalent of a Dart GTS, although rarer. The A53 code shown confirms this car as a factory Formula S model. Interior needs restoration, although there are no dents or dings -- new seats, carpets, etc needed. Exterior is straight with little rust -- front clip was replaced a few months before car was parked, due to another vehicle cutting me off. Exterior needs new paint and some replacement trim. Most of the car is painted factory copper, although the front sheet metal was never repainted. The motor was pulled at 40,000 miles due to a burnt valve and replaced with a 318. However, this original 340 motor was rebuilt with a high-performance rebuild -- new TRW pistons maintaining factory 10.5:1 CR, rods were shot-peened, magnafluxed, crank was reground at .10 under, block was line bored, entire rotating assembly was balanced, cylinders were bored .30 over with torque plates. Head were milled, valves were ground, and the heads have high-performance springs, bronze guides, and teflon seals. All bearings and gaskets are included. Although the machine work and parts purchase for the car's original motor was performed about the time the car was parked, the motor was never assembled -- the parts have been kept oiled and in bags all these years, so that now any potential buyer can inspect the machine work, and add any other custom features to the motor without worrying what's really inside. This is the original 1969 big-valve X-head motor that came with the car. On Nov-21-11 at 13:33:18 PST, seller added the following information: Note: after shooting more pictures of various areas, including all rust spots, it is apparent to me this car has very little rust indeed! There seems to be no underbody rust at all. The left rear quarter panel showss the most rust, which looks quite repairable. The left rear was straightened after a fender-bender in 1980, and does have some bondo. If I were to restore the car myself I might consider replacing it if I were going for concours, but it's pretty good as is. All other sheet metal is in great shape. The interior is complete, but carpets and new upholstery would make it look much better, of course. But it's all there, even the factory shoulder harnesses.
