Vehicle Detail
1976 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT a.k.a. "Sprint Veloce" The 1975-1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT was derived from the company's mid-'70s Alfetta sedan and came with a completely different coupe styling -- credited to Giorgio Giugiaro. Later in production the Alfetta GT was labeled the "Sprint Veloce", a name that some of you may be more familiar with. The identical chassis to the Sedans features a five-speed de Dion rear transaxle (transmission in front of the rear end for better weight distribution). In addition a torsion-bar front suspension by lower A-arm, an upper transverse arm, and a longitudinal link are responsible for a more even weight distribution, resulting in excellent handling capabilities. Along with the 120 hp 4-cylinder DOHC 2.0l engine the package can certainly not deny its racing background that stands to this day synonymous with the Alfa Romeo brand name. About 2 years ago I discovered the Coupe shown and offered in this presentation in the desert area of Southern California. The owner had moved from Oregon the years prior, and decided to part with it for an amount that I deemed reasonable despite the fact that the car was in need of attention. Even though it is still titled in Oregon, the vehicle data plates mounted in the door jamb confirm it is a January 1976 produced car that is legal to be operated in all States of the Union including California.. In the years since I purchased the Coupe I have spent some time and money to bring the project further forward to completion, but have to admit at this point that I lack further interest to complete it due to time constraints. As much ambition I had to complete this good looking little jewel, priorities needed to be set, and the Alfetta is no longer on top of the list, therefore it needs to go, even at a loss. I dared to tackle this "project" at times, since the condition of the car was very promising. The body is straight and widely rustfree and it does not display any signs of accidents. Please click on the above picture for a look from the other side. A small dent in the drivers door is pretty much the only visible body damage I was able to find on the car that was repainted once during its life time as a match to the original Alfa Red AR501 that was factory applied. ---- The decklid itself had suffered from some rust perforation around the glass, so that I opted for an exchange with a unit from a donor car in better condition. Despite not being completely rust free either, as none of the ones you will run across are when searching, it is in good enough condition to complete the car as it was needed. A rust-free Alfetta is virtually unheard of, as the early model's body panels attained the unfortunate reputation to rust severely, some of them already on the dealer's lot when new. Having found this Coupe in the condition it is in I considered myself very lucky. The areas that are know to become cancerous, like the wheel and fender wells, as well as the rockers and floor pans present themselves unharmed as can be seen from underneath. Also look at the pictures of the engine bay shown a bit further down in this presentation, rust is not an issue in any of these prone areas. Please click on the above picture for a look at the undercarriage. Merely the windshield frame showed signs of perforation and has therefore been attended as needed. It is suggested though to remove the windshield and gasket down the line for a replacement to complete a proper repair, a job that I did not tackle due to aforementioned time constraints. Under the hood the 120 hp in line 4 cylinder still performs its duties. The engine starts and runs promising, but since it has not been out on the road for quite some time to really be driven and warmed up, it would certainly benefit from additional attention in order to run smoother than it currently does, particularly in idle. The engine has good compression values as tested, it does not seem to burn any oil, and does not make any untoward noises other than the well known throaty sound emitting from the exhaust, an exhaust note that Alfa Romeos have become known for. Please click on the above picture for a look from the other side. Inside the Alfetta presents itself as clean as outside, despite some obvious signs of use. Once seated in the comfortable, recently re-upholstered front seats you notice immediately the unusual dash design, with the tach right in front of you. As the dash top itself has developed misc. cracks over the years from the sun it is now covered with a much more pleasing dash cover, the rest of the interior presents itself in very useable condition. By the way, the speedometer in the center with the integrated odometer shows currently 87597 miles. Could this possibly be the true mileage. I cannot be certain, but judging by the overall condition of the car I would come to the conclusion that it probably is. The front seats just recently redone, they are a good match ... While a spare tire and a trunk floor mat or cover are missing, one can see the entire healthy trunk floor and the unharmed quarter panels from inside. A box with goodies is currently stored in here, amongst other odds and ends belonging to this automobile it contains for the most part the air condition system that mounts in the engine compartment, which the previous owner had dismounted since he almost never had the need for it in Oregon. Please click on the above picture for another look from the RH side. It is easy to see that this Alfetta GT has tons of potential to be returned to its former glory. Granted, there will be some work left to be performed to return it to such, but unless you are willing to peel out a healthy amount to buy something that is already done, this good looking Coupe may by the most reasonably priced way to get a hold of one before they are all gone. As a motivated seller I have set a very reasonable low reserve that by far does not cover my financial involvement. With that in mind the auction for this beautiful Italian automobile might just be one of the more interesting offers here on eBay at this time. Please read my terms of sale ! I did my best to accurately describe the vehicle I have for sale. If you still have any questions remaining that are not answered by the description and the pictures above, I invite you to email me at axelbee@earthlink.net before you place your bid. Please understand that, as nice as the car may appear overall, you are bidding on a "USED CAR", and as such it surely will not measure up to any new vehicle. You most certainly will find flaws consistent with its age and usage, and if you are an overly picky buyer, who never purchased a vehicle online before, it might not be suitable for you to purchase a vehicle through this online auction. If you are someone who wants to save a lot of money on a good deal, as it is possible in an online auction, you may have to consider putting a small portion of those savings back into the vehicle to make it as perfect as possible in your own opinion. The vehicle is a used car, and as such I cannot be held responsible for things that happen after a sale, therefore it is being sold AS-IS with no implied warranty. Please place a bid only if you are serious about owning the car and have the necessary funds available to pay for it. I expect payment in full within 7 days after the auction ended and will not be able nor willing to assist in financing. I accept your payment in US funds only, this by means of a Cashier's Check or a Wire Transfer. I will certainly work with you on any arrangement to have the car picked up or shipped at a later time, payment terms still need to be met within the 7-day period. While I gladly assist with any shipping arrangements of the car to be shipped to any location in the world, any additional costs for transportation and preparation will be solemnly the high bidder's responsibility in addition to the final high bid price. These reasonable terms in mind please consider your bid on this vehicle carefully. Once the auction ended and you had successfully become the high bidder, you have accepted a legal and binding contract, as outlined in eBay's rules and regulation, to purchase the car offered in this auction with no room for further negotiations. Thank you for stopping by and your interest in my auction. In compliance with eBay's Rules & Regulations no part of this presentation may be reproduced without permission of the author + designer.
