Vehicle Detail

A very nice Convertible project with most of the hard dirty work already completed. A rust free floor from a 54 Pontiac donor car was used to create a very solid base for this restoration candidate. The floor was mig welded in place and any rusted brackets were replaced with new metal as per original configuration. The rockers and inner rockers are rust free and the frame is extremely nice with no heavy pitting as found on other cars this age - no damage or rust issues. This car is solid enough that it would not require a frame-off restoration as most 1950's convertible do. The original under seat heater was reinstalled and as photos show solid welds are through out. The floor was then coated with POR 15 for protection. The floor area in the back seat section is also solid, but an area was chiseled out years ago in an attempt by someone to salvage some parts. That area has been replaced as shown in photos. The rest of the body will require a small amount of metal work as shown in the photos. The quarter panels appear to be exceptional , with no previous repairs..there are 4 small dents that look like they were from a pellet gun on the right quarter and 1 bullet hole on the left quarter - I sanded these areas down for better photos. The drivers door is very solid and came from a 54 Chevy hardtop. The trunk is solid but will also need a small amount of metal replacement in the rear tail board areas and the spare tire well - the trunk floor itself is very nice. This car had a few of it's parts removed years ago, but it is complete enough to bring back to it's former glory days as photos show. I have spent a lot of time and money to get it into this condition and acquire the missing parts.....now it is someone else's turn to finish it. Bottom line here is that this car will need a full complete restoration. I have not tried to turn the engine over, so let the photos be your guide. The car rolls and steers easily, but will have to be winched onto a hauler for transport. The tires hold air well. This car also has rare factory power steering, and I have other parts pictured to make it more complete, including some nos moldings. Front seat is from a donor 54 chevy 2 door. I will have more photos up soon. This is an original Convertible with vin and cowl tags present. It is titled in my name California title, but the car is at my current residence in Nebraska. If buyer so desires I will have it inspected and retitled to a Nebraska state title, as I no longer reside in California. I am retired and available anytime during the auction to accommodate inspections. I will sell this World wide, but am inexperienced in this arena and will require that the buyer be responsible to handle all shipping arrangements, tax and customs ramifications, and provide communications to expedite the sale. I will be available to assist in loading and will work with your shipper as long as they come to my front door. I live off of a major interstate highway on an acreage with room to accommodate large transport trucks. For overseas buyers, the winning bid (in $USD) will need to be wire transferred to my account after information is exchanged and other details are mutually agreed upon- This must be done within 7 days of auction ending. I WILL NOT take Paypal for international purchases. The car will not leave my possession until all funds are clear and safely in my bank account. US buyers are welcome to pickup car with cash or certified funds...again all funds must clear before car is released. A $500. Non refundable deposit via PayPal will be required within 48 hours of auction ending - Balance due within 7 days. I will provide free secure storage for up to 30 days to assist buyers. Any questions please call 402-960-6300 Thanks, Bob I have had local buyers inquire, as this is also for sale in other venues- I reserve the right to end the auction at any time prior to the reserve being met - Once the reserve is met the auction will run it's course and sell to the highest final bid. I am getting a few phone calls asking for over the phone descriptions.....I am doing my best to represent this car with photos capturing what I believe to be the worst areas - I'm not trying to hide anything, and can email additional requested photos of any specific areas of concern and other parts not pictured that will go with the car. Please send your requests via "ask seller a question" through Ebay. On Nov-09-11 at 12:45:33 PST, seller added the following information: Also included is the correct 54 pontiac convertible rear seat springs, and a solid front split bench seat from a 54 2 door Chevy with seat shells. The rear seat springs are unrestored, rusty, and weak, and are best used as patterns - although they could be rebuilt, in my experience the easiest way to remedy this would be to purchase a rear seat from a 53-54 Chevy or Pontiac 2 door Coupe (No post).....They bottom seat spring and cushion is 100% exactly the same as the convertible - the top backrest springs need only minor trimming and fabrication to be correct - I've done this and it is very easy to figure out. I have pictures of the rear seat positioned in the car and will provide a link to view them for interested bidders - ebay only allows me 24 photos. Please email for the link. I am also throwing in a very nice dent free pair of L&R 1/4 panel stone shields to replace the dented ones and an NOS pair of L&R front fender moldings. and I also have the power top switch to make this a fairly complete car- I'll be going through my parts and include anything that this car may be missing to make it more complete for the winning bidder. Let the photos be your guide and if you want to see more photos send a request via Ebays "ask a question" Good Luck, Bob On Nov-09-11 at 18:09:40 PST, seller added the following information: I have set up an album website with photobucket for anyone interested in more pictures. It can be viewed via a slide show with much better photo quality. I don't think I can include a link on this ad, so email me for the http link info. It also shows more detail of the floor and rocker sectioning replacement process. I will be adding more photos to this album on Thursday. On Nov-12-11 at 10:12:46 PST, seller added the following information: I have my reserve set at what I have invested in this car, I have owned it for 4 years and it is currently registered as a non operative vehicle with a California title. I can store this vehicle inside for a reasonable amount of time for the new buyer after it is paid for in full, to accommodate weather or other related pickup problems. I am currently restoring a 53 Chieftain and 54 Bel air convertibles, and have quite a few parts to sort through, but will include extra parts to make this car more complete to the buyer. I have attempted to show this car with original paint and patina prior to sale. The areas that were sanded down were areas of surface rust removed to show the solidity of the body. Naturally upon very close inspection and during the restoration disassemble process, the new buyer will discover other areas needing attention....my goal was to minimize any surprises to buyers....."They always look better in the pictures" I have been restoring cars for over 30 years - BEWARE of buying any vintage car without prior inspection or a lot of good photos of areas prone to rust - Creative camera work with Bondo and Primer can hide a lot if sins. This car will go "ALL THE WAY" now, and I will NOT end the auction early - Please don't ask for a buy it now price- if the car fails to meet the reserve, I may negotiate with the highest bidder. I have additional photos on photobucket at http://s1135.photobucket.com/albums/m628/bobnebraska604/ As I find more parts that will be included, more photos will appear on that site throughout the auction. I have over 100 watchers now as verified on watchcount.com so there has been quite a bit of interest. GOOD LUCK to all. Bob Pennington, Springfield Nebraska
