Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 77 Rabbit diesel 1.5l, 4-speed. 1977 was the first year VW produced the Diesel Rabbit and was also the year that they advertised 50+mpg! Keep in mind that this is a NO RESERVE auction, so, bid to own!! This car had spent its entire life in southern Georgia until I purchased it earlier this year. The original owner (who passed away) was a truck driver and a mechanic and meticulously maintained this car its entire life. After his passing, the vehicle was stored in a barn for a few years- which is where I found it. Lets face it, the car wouldnt win a beauty pageant as she sits, but is very very sound. ALL of the electrical works along with everything mechanical- and it all works as it should. Anyone would be pleasantly surprised to see how the car cranks, runs and drives. Everything is in place and unmolested. The steering is nice and tight and over all the car has no shakes, shimmys or rattles. Coming from a VW collector and 15 year VW mechanic, I would trust this car to take me anywhere!! It does not use oil, leak, rattle or smoke. All of the brakes have been refreshed including rebuilt front calipers, new rubber brake hoses and new wheel cylinders. I have done EXTENSIVE maintenance on the drivetrain including a new set of tires, a new timing belt, tensioner, front engine seals, valve cover gasket, intermediate o-ring, water pump, drive belt, thermostat, shifter bushings, all new braided fuel hose and stainless clamps. A new alternator and battery was installed at the same time, along with a new starter and a rebuilt injection pump. All fluids on the car have been flushed along with all of the other service. Since the pics have been taken, I have also replaced the strut bushings and wiper blades. As you can see in the pics, the body is straight and solid. All of the "bad" areas are shown in the pics and its easy to see that there are misc. dings and dents, but nothing significant. Most importantly, this has been a GA car its whole life and is structurally sound. You have to keep in mind that this car has never seen salt or snow and that it has no rust perforations. Aside from that, yes, the paint is showing its age and I would recommend painting it for preservation purposes if nothing else. Please watch this short, descriptive video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73XQOkTK7Gc Like I said, I purchased this car from the original owners family from a collectors stand point. I have the original paper work and dealer folder for the car that includes the owners manual, warranty card, dealer book etc. I have a free and clear title along with a bill of sale from the brother that, of course, reflects all of this to be true. As always, I have tried to describe the vehicle as accurate as humanly possible. Please check my feedback and bid with confidence!!. If you are "unsure" about ANYTHING on this car please contact me prior to bidding. I will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have. Please keep in mind that your bid IS a contract and that if you do bid on this car that you ARE agreeing with the terms of the sale. If you have less than 5+ feedback, please contact me prior to bidding or your bid will be cancelled. I require a $500 deposit via paypal within 24 hrs of the auction end- NO EXCEPTIONS! The remainder is to be paid within 7 days via wire transfer, cash, or cashiers check from a bank that is somewhat local to me. The vehicle must be picked up within 14 days. Good luck and Happy Bidding!! On Nov-13-11 at 07:29:54 PST, seller added the following information: I just wanted to say thanks for all of the questions and interest. If you havent seen the video, please WATCH THE VIDEO. I have added a few pics as well. One thing that I forgot to mention is a pretty interesting option that this car has- its a spare fuel tank mounted in the spare tire area. You can see in the pic, that it joins the fuel filler neck underneath the car. With this tank, one could drive many many miles before filling up. This car has never been run on WVO, but, this tank could come into use nicely if you were into that sort of thing. Or.. if you didnt like it, it could be easily removed-
