Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is this solid 1971 AMC Javelin, a good basis for a hot rod or AMX clone. We saved the car from a junkyard in May 2007, and it has been garaged since. We hoped to make this car into something fun, but other projects popped up and it now needs a new owner. It came from the factory as a 6 cylinder column-shift automatic in Golden Lime (C1A) with a black interior (161S). Somewhere along the line a 4bbl 360 V8 with headers was installed, along with a floor shifter, and the car was painted red. The interior parts were painted tan. The original paint color can be seen in some of the photos provided. It has power steering but not power brakes. The odometer reads 53,735, but I have no way of knowing for sure if this is accurate. The car’s MA inspection sticker expired in 1997. Word is it was then parked and left in a garage by the previous owner. THE GOOD: We haven’t had a chance to get the 360 running, but it does spin. There are also headers and what seems to be a more recent exhaust. There is a center armrest which appears to be a factory part. The doors are solid and close nicely. Rocker panels are solid. The roof is solid. Window edges look solid, with one possible issue on the lower driver side of the windshield. Trunk lid is solid. Trunk floor looks OK with some light rusting on the bumper supports. Frame looks VERY solid. So do the floors. (Please examine all photos and read below to get an idea of the overall body condition.) THE BAD: The car does NOT have a title, so do NOT bid unless you can get one in your state with a Bill of Sale only. The frame under the functional hood is toast. If you can find a solid frame, you may be able to save the skin, which is in decent shape, and still have a functional hood. The rear tail light panel, rear bumper, front grille, wheels, and original steering wheel are gone. Hard seatbacks are there, though. Interior needs to be cleaned and/or repainted or replaced (see below). Someone installed an electric antenna above the trunk. Rear valance under the rear bumper is tweaked. Front passenger fender appears to have been replaced in the past, and has a hole where the antenna should be and a hole behind the wheel. Both rear quarters have a little rust that patch panels can easily fix. Please note the car was very dusty when we took the photos. I did my best to show all the usual “issue locations” to you. I couldn’t post them all within this listing, so please go to http://maxiblue.homestead.com/71.html to see a lot more. Please do NOT ask if we will part the car out. We are selling it as a complete project. We do have some black 1971 interior parts that may be available to the buyer at an extra cost. TERMS: Serious bidders ONLY! Please read the whole vehicle description! All sales final. Again, this car DOES NOT HAVE A TITLE as it was purchased from a junk yard and is sold with a Bill of Sale only! Check with your state for title requirements. $500 deposit required within a week of auction end. Car will NOT be released until full payment is received. You win it, you pick it up. Would like the car removed within 2 weeks of auction end. Car is located in north-central Massachusetts and does roll.
