1981 Mercedes Benz 300CD in Astral Silver with Blue MB-Tex seat trim. A fine example of the rare coupe version of the legendary Mercedes 300 Diesel. This car was purchased new at the former Imported Cars of Greenwich CT, Mercedes Benz in November of 1981 and has had one owner since. It has always been well cared for and garage kept and is in excellent condition. With just under 113,000 miles, this car has a lot of life left in it. It was owned in addition to a 300td station wagon; usage was alternated keeping the mileage on the CD low. This car has been very well preserved and is a rare find in this condition. The exterior of the car is in great shape. The silver paint holds a very deep shine and is in very good condition. The chrome is also in great shape and is very bright. The rubber trim is in very good condition and is not dry or cracked. The glass is in good condition with the exception of some scratching on the driver's door window. The car has not been in an accident. There are a few rust blisters isolated to the lower portions of 3 of the wheel wells. I have included a photograph of the largest section by far; there are about 3 other blisters which are the size of a pea. These spots are very hard to see and can only be seen under extremely close scrutiny. The blisters have not erupted and there is no rot. All other prone areas such as the lower front apron, jack points, rear window etc. are free from any imperfections. I have included some photos of the underside to give an idea but I also have close up pictures of each wheel well that I would be happy to send. The car was very seldom used in the winter and is in very clean condition as a result. The interior of the car is also in excellent condition. The seats retain their original form and springiness. The car was always garaged and all interior colors are deep and vibrant. The carpets are free from any major dirt or stains. The wood has rich color and has only a few light surface hairline cracks in the finish near the window switches. The door trim panels are tight and firm, holding their form, and are not shrunk or crumpled. The light use and great care is evident in the lack of wear on the seats and steering wheel, both retaining their texture. The panel that houses the speakers in the rear window is not faded at all and is very deep blue. The blue dash does have a crack down the center and two smaller cracks that are starting at the corner of the speaker grill ( I also have a close up photo of this area). A few items on the interior are not working correctly: the cruise control is not working; the rear passenger half window will not go all the way down every time (it stays up about 1/3 of the way. I was able to work it all the way down in the past but was not able to at the time of the photos. All of the other windows and sunroof work.); the climate control buttons do not pop back into place; and the A/C is not working. The functions of the fan will work and the car will heat and cool, but it is difficult to control the vent location discharge as the buttons do not click back, it is annoying. The interior, however, is extremely clean and in beautiful condition. Mechanically, the car drives very nicely. The engine is very strong and the transmission shifts perfectly. The car drives straight down the road and is very solid. There are no strange noises or suspension issues. All wear items such as brakes, exhaust, and tires are in good condition. The car has been used very little in the past few years and was put into storage. It was taken out and given a new battery and alternator. The yellow indicator light for the glow plugs has burnt out, I use the seat belt light to time the starting of the car as it stays illuminated for the same amount of time. The car is a real joy to drive, the feeling is tight and responsive due to the limited use. In sum, this car is a very rare find. Legendary for its durability, most of these cars have around 200-300k miles. With only 113k, there are many miles left to go on this automobile. The car is also very economical, returning over 30mpg on highway travel, impressive for a large car. Cosmetically speaking, the car is in excellent condition and looks very impressive.
